  1. Hi,

I have a problem with my mpeg files:

I record movies from the TV with a digital satellite card and then I burn them on a DVD. I have a mpeg file (video and the stereo sound) and an ac3 file (Dolby Digital sound). Now I want cut the commercials out of the video, normally that is no problem, but it’s a problem with the ac3 file.
So, I need a programm which can cut the mpeg video and the ac3 file at the same time. Otherwise it wouldn’t be synchronous. The other possibility is that I create the DVD and then I can cut the commercial out of the vob file. I don’t know which method is better, so please help me
Another problem is that I have many short cartoon movies. I want to burn them all together on a DVD. So, it is possible that I can make down the quality of the mpeg files a little bit? The Cartoon movies doesn’t need so much Quality.

Thanks a lot for all answers.

(I hope you can understand it, because my English is not the best. I’m from Germany, but here nobody on some internet sites really know an answer)

  3. Hello Tommyknocker,

I've already tried it with the normal VirtualDub. But it doesn't work, because VirtualDub can only work with AVI-Files, not with mpeg.
I also have a special Version of VirtualDub which alleged can work with MPEG, but when I want to save the file as a MPEG file it doesn't work.
So, maybe it gives more Programms which can work with MPEG?

When you get the MPEG working the way you want in Virtual Dub, frameserve it to TMPGEnc Plus!.

  6. The dude wants to cut his mpeg, not ut/convert to avi/reencod to mpeg again. Too many times when I see questions for cutting people right off spout off virtualdub in one flavor or anothr.

My recommendation? Womble mpeg2vcr. they have a full featured 30 day free trial and will do exactly what you need, and FAST, and with AV sync no problem.

Talk about what you know. When frameserving, how does Virtual Dub encode anything. And if he wants to throw $70.00 towards Womble, let have at it.
    Hello.

  9. I am talking about what I know. Merely a typo, frameserving involves reencoding.

And 70$ to cut them is just peachy if you ask me, when one is doing straight mpeg2/ac3 capptures. Frameserving everythig after capping mpeg2 would cause unacceptable quality loss.

When the question is "how can I cut my mpeg2 files with ac3"
The best answer is NOT any form o virtualdub. I stand by this statement.

And woble is nice i that it has a 30 day free trial, sopm they dude can do his videos up nicvce without paying and decide if he wants to keep it.

How about authoring and cutting at the same time. TMPGEnc DVD author can trim your mpegs and then author and burn them to DVD.

As for making your cartoons smaller, that's what DVDShrink is for. Author it then shrink it.

just throw a chapter before and after the commercial and jump right over them ..

    its the fastest method ..

  12. you can do it the hard way (i think)

multiplex the mpeg + ac3 with tmpeg and later just cut what you want
    using tmpeg.

make a list of where you cut it and aply the same thing with the mpeg audio.

    might work....

  13. Yes, that is right. but if I don't do both cuts at the same time, it would not be synchron.
T've tried it with tmpeg. Also this programm can not work with ac3...
