I'm delighted that Intel isn't the only player in town. AMD is keepin 'em honest

For a while there I thought it would go the way of Cyrix, and the dodo bird, and Intel would emerge as the hardware "Microsoft". Thankfully AMD has just gotten stronger these past few years.

One good thing I'll say about Intel is that they almost always put out good products. The same can't be said of Microsoft.

cyrix? via bought them and made the C3 processor, and invented the mini-itx form factor to stick it in

Via just released the latest C3 CPU with hardware encryption engine. about 20 times faster at encryption than a P4 3GHz chip, and still only 11 watts

Good point. We all know what it's like to use a copy of Windows Beta :P

I've been using AMD processors for about five years now, and I cannot wait to go back to Intel. I just can't see the big difference in the end.

Intel?? No problems like Microsoft? Are you kidding me? Intel has FUBAR'd worse than Microsoft.

    1) The 286. Talk about a FUBAR'd chip, every single 286 is flawed.
    2) The 386(sx). In an effort to 'fix' the 286, Intel rushes the 386 to market, but the 32 bit instruction set has issues, so they disable it. The 386SX is a 16 bit chip.
    3) The 386 series has no embedded math co-processor.
    4) The 486 is rushed to market. The embedded Math co-processor has issues. This the 486sx has no math-co.
    5) The cycle repeats with a 486dx25 competeing against the "new" chip, the 486sx2(50). The first of the clock "doubled" chips. This repeats up to 100 Mhz (133 Mhz was AMD).
    6) The Pentium 60,66. Talk about true abortions, 'nough said.
    7) The Pentium 75, with a 25 Mhz bus.
    8) The alternating pentium saga with 30/33 frequency shifts, resulting in 60 and 66 Mhz memory timings (that's why the Pentium 120 was as fast as the Pentium 100).
    9) The Celeron with no cache.
    10) The Celeron with a 100 Mhz bus (now 200 DDR).
    11) Let's not forget that little proprietary memory issue a few years back, shall we?

I left out Xenon's and I'm missing at least 1 cpu issue.

Intel makes some great products, but they are by no means immune to major problems.
