Finder burn will work but it limits you to less than 4.4 gigs. so if its under 4.4 you should be able to burn it using finder burn as long as your dvd bunrer is supported by the OS as "fully supported"
1. insert dvd
2. let it mount on the finder
3. remane the mounted dvd
4. drop in your VIDEO_TS folder
5. create a AUDIO _TS folder and also place it in the mounted dvd
6. drag to trash (which is now a burn icon)
its burning -
thanks for the quick response! does it really need the audio folder? i followed these same directions only to make a coaster. how do i know if my burner "is fully supported?
-
I've now backed up over 20 dvds and never made a coaster yet
the secret is always burn to a dvdrw first to make sure its okay then to your dvdr
Takes twice as long
But stops the waste of dvd making coasters
I use Toast 6.0
well worth the small investmentI maybe blonde but only by choice -

4. your drive(s) will be listed
5 on the ATA -3 bus choose your dvdrw drive by clicking on it
you will see the following (this is on one of my macs, and has a toshiba dvdrw)
TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R5002:
Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
Model: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R5002
Revision: 1031
Serial Number: 23RB702218
Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
Disc Burning: Fully Supported
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: No
Protocol: ATAPI
Unit Number: 1
Socket Type: Internal
you are looking for something like this to show up
typically a finder burned dvd only holds 4.3 gigs of a VIDEO_TS folder. Adding an audio_ts folder may not be necessary, but why not do it since it wont hurt anything
the structure should look like this
DVD_DISC_NAME
-----AUDIO_TS
-----VIDEO_TS
----------video ts files
typically we all use Toast 6 to burn our dvd's because of its vast ability as a burner and its ability to put the full 4.4 gigs onto a dvd -
once again thanks for the info galactica. all is well with the superdrive, it is fully supported. when i drag my video_ts folder over to the dvd it gives me an error message, the item "VIDEO_TS" contains one or more busy items that cannot be changed. not sure what that means i know that the files are all complete and what not. it gives me the option to continue, sould i just continue?? i know it would be alot easier if i just purchased toast, but is it possible to create an image and use disk copy. really low on cash right now so i am just trying to make this work. any help is grately appreciated.
thanks. -
Where is the VIDEO_TS from? are you mounting a image and then dragging the VIDEO_TS to the dvd?
You cant just make a disk image with utility because it needs to be in UDF format.
Instead DVDImager can make the image for you and then i suppose you can use disk copy to burn the image.
have not tried it this way myself so i cant verify that it will work. -

bittorrent is a touchy subject here. However, your THE DEAD download harly seems like a commercial popular movie.
typically you get "in use" errors when the file is well, in use
that means it is being accessed by another app. Could be your torrent which you are seeding [if you are]. Could be a video player you recently tried to access the file with.
id suggest, just as a kill all, restart the machine
then contiune with the burning process
if you want to make an image of the VIDEO_TS folder to then burn with disk copy use the dvdimager app i talked about above. it makes a DVD-ROM UDF format image which should burn with no problems using the disk copy burn -
thanks alot. i will look into all those options.i undersatand the touchiness of some dvd related topics. no harm intended. you have been a lot of help, i appreciate it.

I have yet to have been able to burn a DVD using my superdrive (Pioneer 104) but can burn cd's. I am Apple DVD media.
Recently, I tried burning a backup copy of a DVD that i had dlownloaded--everything seemed to be fine during burning. However, at the end of the verification process I get an error that says "verification failed sector 16 unreadable."
I remove the DVD from the try and re-insrt into the drive. It then shows 0 items and 4.28 GB available. of course when i try to burn the files again I am told that "I have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OSX can read."
I can burn CD's without a problem but have yet to burn a DVD.
BTW, i have also tried copying data files to DVD but have had no luck.
any thoughts would be gratefully received before i buy any more discs!
