    New to burning here...
    At what point would you tell that you had a "bad" blank disc
    -Nero (or whatever burning program) tells you that there is an error while writing
    Or
    -Do you have to wait until you are watching your new copy and you'll notice mess ups as it is playing?

    In my experience....yes

    Standalones tend (but not always) to be more picky than your burner for reading recordable media.

    In my experience with burning Nero tells you when your burning the disc. It will say something like (i forgot exactly what) "read error, cannot continue burn process" That was with TDK 4x DVD+R media. Please be aware that there are 2 makers of TDK media and the write error occurred with the cheaper maker (again, i forgot the maker's name and I'm too lazy to look for a TDK media and run dvdinfo)
    The further away I get from the things that I care about...
    the less I care about how much further away I get...

    Whenever I get this stupid error, the drive has locked up or the RAM or cache fubar'd the ASPI drivers. I justreboot. It's fine after that.

    The Nero "verify" feature also misses too many errors.

    A real test is Nero CD-DVD Speed or Kprobe. The other best test is to watch it from start to finish without blinking.
