How to covert Divx to DVDr

I am new at this. How is the quality of Divx to DVDr. If it is worth it, how do I do this?

I use TMPGEnc to convert DIVX to MPEG2 and TMPGEnc DVD Author
to convert the MPEG2 file to VOB's for burning.

I would check the convert section on the left. There are many ways to do what you want, and yes the quality will be good if you do it correctly

I just have one question left...
I know that SVCD and Divx are pretty close to DVD quality. How is the
quality of converting them from Divx to DVDr? Is there any loss in quality.

Thanks for the direction. I will use TMPGenc Plus for the 1st converstion and look at some program for the mpeg 2 to VOB conversion.

You are a bit confused divx is an avi file

SVCD is MPEG2 as is DVD

Do some background reading on the subject which can be found in abundance on this site and all will become clear.

Is a false assuption. Absolutely possitively not always true.

True DivX DVD quality has a bitrate around 1 GB/hour and a resolution of 640x480. 1/2 D1 quality is about 1400 MB for the Movie and is around 424x240 (16:9). 1/4 D1 is 320x240 and about 700 Mb/movie. This all assumes similiar quality sound for the resolution (AC3 for D1 and 128k MP3 for 1/4D1).

There is always loss of quality, ESPECIALLY if the source has distortion (every low bitrate DivX does). Garbage In = Garbage Out. A 700 MB version of Any of the Lord of the Rings movies would be pure garbage!

In a practical situation, if the Divx looks good on say a nice 17" lcd screen, no macroblocks in fast action scenes, it will look very good on a crt TV of 27". Hoever, if you play the original DVD you will see the diference. It will be viewable but not excellent. I've done a few conversions as an experiment and came to the conclusion that the source has to be extremely good to begin with or you might be dissapointed after hours of work. Just back up your dvds with Shirnk or some other tool. It's a lot better!
