I have read about people watching a movie OK from their hard drive but cant play the DVD they have backed up, what I was wondering is how do you watch the movie from off the hard drive?

You can use PowerDVD, WinDVD, Windows Media Player, or several other software players. Check the Tools section at left.

It always amazes me how people have trouble understanding where they are.....
Surely if you went to the main dvdrhelp.com page, and answered this topic from the "latest active forum topics" you would see

MAC: How do I watch a movie from my HD?

A nice green MAC tells you where this topic is. Now if you just went to click/navigate through the forum, surely you would be conscious of the fact you are clicking on MACVIDEO

    It just baffels my mind...

    So, back to the post
On a mac, you would use Apple DVD Player or Video Lan Client

With apple dvd player you just open the app, go to open VIDEO_TS folder and browse for the folder.

VLC you do the same, except you say OPEN DISC and select the VIDEO_TS button and browse for the folder

My normal G3 laptop can only run 10.1.5 (not enough memory) but I was playing with a new G4 IBook running 10.3.3 recently.

You can very easily mount shared drives from a Win PC. I had a number of (dvddecrypter) ISOs on the PC. On the Mac they show with little drive icons on them. I just double clicked the ISO on the PC and it mounted on the Mac and auto launched the DVD player on the Mac.

It was great, very simple and convenient... watching movies on the laptop over my network while working on the PC. 8)

Thanks everyone!, it amazes me just how helpful you people are with the simple answers that are confusing to a newbie,I am 42 yo with less than 12 months exp on a computer, I have learned so much in that short time and this forum is an excellent source of information, it might sound dumb to some, but I just didn't know to open VIDEO_TS file from the title bar, I just hit the play button and nothing happened. Its easy when you know how.
