  1. I've bought many 10 pack maxell dvd-rs from walmart and buy.com. I picked up some at office depot last week when they were on sale and I am not getting the same results as the ones in the jewel cases. All have the same media code MXLRG02, is there a difference in quality control? Some of the disks in the spindle have marks on the edges. I'm getting read errors on these disks. Never had one disk from a jewel case have a read error. I also wanted to get some ty's from rima.com but they come in 50 and 100 spindles, has anyone else experienced problems with discs on spindles? thanks

I burned a spindle of the MAXELL DVD-R 4X that I bought from Office Depot the other week. No problems or errors on any of them.

  3. Never had a problem buying spindles. Only had one bad dvd come out of a spindle after the box had been dropped. And that was obvious by the crack.

  4. Can't speak for TY's...I've only used Fuji jewel case.

Maxell's are a different story. I've bought yellow tops and white printable jewels. I've also bought both in spindles of various sizes. There is absolutely NO difference in quality. I had the same concern as you about bulk media....so I did some exhaustive testing with CDSpeed, Kprobe, etc. on both my burners and there was no difference.

When I order online, I do keep an eye on manufacturers part number (reorder number). Usually with Maxell it's 635XXX. I'm still a little concerned about fakes.

i always buy them by the spindle and i never get problems.

and since you say you are going to buy the TY dvd-r's from rima, then trust me, you won't have any problems whatsoever.

The general concensus is that spindles are not as good/durable/trustworthy as media in jewel cases. This is from my many readings over time from others on here and not from personal use. I do however feel that spindles by their very nature are more likely to fail than jewel case media, but not by a significant margin.
