  1. I just ordered the Canopus ADVC - 100 to help me with my problem home movie tapes, that my current capture card can’t handle without additional equipment.

What are some of the best capture programs (in the $0 - $100 range) that work well with this device.

I am prepared to transfer in as AVI, but would like to know about Mpeg2 alternatives as well.

Main Concept mpeg2 encoder and for me, Pinnacle Studio 8.12; awesome.
Or go the free route, DVIO.
I've tried Scenlyser and it was fine but no better than Pinnacle (Pinnacle for DV only BTW, shite at anaolgue - if you were thinking of using it for both).

I tell you what, someone here recommended to me and now I swear by it, SCENEANALYZER.

I have VEGAS for capture, I have premier but SCENEANALYZER is just an awesome tool, runs standalone and is relatively cheap.

  4. I have the same thing

I use Ulead DVD movie factory 2.0

to capture in mpeg 2 format , both constant and variable bitrate

    It works fine

yes I have captured from VHS tape and analog camcorder as well

I use the time mode to stop it

you must first play the source before you click capture

I beleive I bought it for $49 online

    Good luck

I have the ATI version of Pinnacle Studio 8.12 that came with my "trusty old AIW". Do you know if that will work with the Canopus ADVC 100?

Hmm, I maybe wrong but I don't think so, I only had version 8.10 until a week ago whereupon I got a message (as I was online) saying 8.12 was available for download.
I wouldn't worry about software, honestly.
DVIO is perfectly fine, and then TMPGEnc Plus is perfect if you need to encode and at the same time want to clip the beginning and end and cut out commercials.
Editing is a differnent matter and like I say, I love love LOVE studio.
