  1. Princo - Optodisc - DupEZ - Prodisc

Has anyone had any experience with any of these 4X dvd-r media brands?

If so, can you please post your results and the burner you used?

I use DupEZ now, they seem to be OK. But check back in six months and I'll let you know if the data is still on the disk.

  4. I used some CompUSA branded Optodisc DVD+R's. They were on sale for $20 for $25. I couldn't beleive that 75% were coasters. I felt CompUSA knew this and unloaded bad discs on their customers. Doesn't make much sense since I will never buy CompUSA brand discs and probably not any other CompUSA rebranded items. I won't buy Optodisc either unless I start hearing they are good. It's hard to resist since most cheap DVD+R's and especially inkjet DVD+R's are Optodiscs.

The DupEZ you had problems with, were they the old Leaddata 1x or the newer Leaddata01 4x disks? I've only use a few, but so far no bad burns, even all the way out to 4.3GB. And the players I've tried them in seem to like the Leaddata01 4x disks. I have only used -R disk too, personal choice mostly.

The DUP's I had were 2x LD ... pretty much all LD falls into the "Princo" category for me. Unreliable, but may work.

CMC is below that ... won't work.

  7. I've had complete opposite results with CMC DVD+R's.

50 out of 50 Khypermedia CMC's I got last Thanksgiving 2003 from OfficeMax.

100 out of 100 Memorex CMC MAG-F01 I got in January 2004 from BestBuy.

49 out of 50 Imation CMC MAG-R01 I got in middle February 2004. I think these were from BestBuy too.

Maybe CMC's quality has improved, or maybe the DVD+R's are better than the DVD-R's. Or maybe I'm just lucky with the discs (knock on wood).

Lordsmurf, I think you should revise your "decent" grade for Optodisc gold top DVD-R. I have used a bunch of them from different spindles and they are awful. All sorts of issues. Crud on the discs, spots on the burnt dye, bad burns but still verified with Nero, last part of movie unwatchable etc. I think trash is more fitting since about half the discs I used had issues.

  10. Shortly after I posted CMC's were ok, I got some Philips branded CMC discs that were bad. Most of them burned, but started having problems at the end of the disc.

I'm only using Ritek DVD+R's from Newegg these days. They have come down in price nicely. Last 50 I got were $33.

This is a burn speed issue. The media cannot handle 4x (even rated 4x). Going 2x or 1x will yield excellent results, as their 1x discs for so long. I mention this on nomorecoasters in the error area.

I sometimes have issues with my gold top discs even at 2x. As for 1x, that is just too slow for me and I don't bother.
