  1. Hey all,

I have a project that is only about 40 minutes long and i'm putting it on the DVD with 2 menus and 2 very short clips (under 1 minute each). For the life of me I can't figure out why Encore isn't filling my DVD's space. It says it has 1.97 GBs of free space and this is with the automatic transcode settings on. Is there anyway that I can fill the rest of the disc with better quality video rather than compressing it so far? Thanks...

BTW: Be gentle, i'm new to Encore

Don't use the automatic transcoding feature. The best way to get the most out of the available space is to use a bitrate calculator (look in the tools section) to get the correct bitrate, then encode your assets individually, then bring them in to be authored.

Depending on your audio, you should be able to encode the video at around 9300 - 9550 and still fit everything on.

40 Mins is simply too short to fill up the disk. That is why it is only showing about 1/2 full. That is correct for a 40 min project. If you use manual settings to try to use more of the disk, meaning you want to use a higher bit rate in hope of producing better visual quality, you may end up with a video that might stutter when played on your DVD player. Keep it less than max setting and you should be OK. If you can play a RW disk, try the highest bit rate setting for your encoding and see how your player handles it. If it stutters, reduce the bit rate and re burn. You will reach a point where thte video will look great and it will play flawlessly. Atoon of hollywood movies avarage about 6000 bit rate. At those settings you should be able to pack two hours of video on a DVD.
