  1. Hello. I live in the US (REGION 1) but have some DVDs from Europe (REGION 2) so I decided to burn them on DVD-Rs with DVD Decrypter in order to remove the codes and watch them on my region 1 standalone DVD player (SONY DVP-615NC). However, when I played the ripped versions it said that they cannot be played due to "area limitations" which is the message I got with the original copies. Is this because I didn't remove the region code (which I thought I did) or is it the whole PAL VS NTSC thing? If it is the the PAL/NTSC issue does anyone know how I can fix that? Thank you very much for your time!!!

Well, DVDdecrypter should have removed the region code. All my discs through DVDdecrypter come out all regions. It is possible that your player reads ONLY region 1 and not multi-region. I have heard of stubborn players like that.

IT could well be a PAL/NTSC issue. There are 2 ways that work. Some players (more el cheapo than bigger name) that will do a PAL --> NTSC (hopefully correctly) conversion and will output NTSC. The other is a PAL output to your TV, and your TV is multi-system and is capable of outputting both PAL and NTSC.

However, due to the typical North-American attitude of being oblivious to the rest of the world, these TV's are rare. All over the world you will find multi-system tv's except the TV's here are 99% NTSC only.

So unless you have a DVD player that does PAL-> NTSC, you are SOL. I suggest you go buy one of the cheap dvd players capable of it. Use the tab here "DVD Players" and search for a suitable one. OR read up about your player first and see if others have reported such problems. There may be a hack or fix for it.

    Cheers.

  3. I just bought a $35 no-name brand (started with letter 'C') DVD player at Best buy and it plays native PAL on an NTSC TV. Played it well too.

When your DVD player is looking at the VIDEO_TS.IFO files, it is analyzing more than the RCE and other types of Region Codes that camn be removed. Many DVD players search for NTSC tag lines in the ifo. Sounds exactly what happened on my older SONY. Had to use IfoEdit to change all of the PAL to NTSC before my SOny would play the disc.

Make sure the setting is actually set to remove the region coding, it may be off

Basically I check all the protection settings, to make sure all protection is removed from the DVD I'm ripping

Check in Tools/Settings, and make sure the region code is set correctly for the DVD you are trying to rip. If this matches the region on the DVD, DVDDecrypter automatically removes it

If its set to something else, then it may not remove it, or could even change the region code, which may give the problems you are having
