Somehow I got this shit on my computer. It says I gotta go through their website to get rid of it. Yet that will not get rid of the ads and popups that come with it. How do I get rid of both?

What is wrong with these people?

    Thanks,

    Bruiser

  4. I followed the guide. Some of the stuff it said to delete I either could not find or it was not there. Now, I do the adware scan and this one last thing keeps popping up. It says "ClearSearch" is the parasite and it is severe.

It is located in program files and I don't know how to get rid of it. I keep deleting it with the spyware software but it keeps showing up on the next scan!!!

Make sure to disconnect all network cables from your computer and then boot in safe mode to run AdAware and whatever other steps needed to remove it. Wouldn't hurt to run NAV while you're in safe mode either.

I've recently been going through the same thing. Accidently hit an OK button instead of close window on a website. Reformatted after I couldn't kill it and the 8 or 9 other programs that came with it. I had saved my 'favorites' file from IE and seems it started the whole cycle over when I put it back into IE. Restore didn't help. Ripped them out piece by piece, then when I had them down to two, Casino and Internet optimizer, Spybot was able to clean them out, hopefully permanently. Killing them in task manager would just make them regenerate. I think somehow they managed to link them into IE favorites. Used an older favorites file and that seemed to work. I found two in registry that I deleted, at great risk to screwing up my OS. I have to admire the brilliance of the files and would gladly pay to shove my foot up the ass of whoever created them.

Another way I do those types of pain in the ass spywares is:

If I know the programs they installed, folders in the Program Files. I just delete those files and folders. Then I use ACE Utilities to scan the registry for invalid entries and delete them.

I only use that in such cases where spybot and ad-aware fail to get rid of all of it. I also give the website to some of my friends who enjoy "virtual B & E".

I'm not sure I would like to choke them...per ce'.....but I would like to bust every tooth out of there mouth...they may choke on one of them....

I deleted all those weird ass files like it said, rebooted and all these ads flood my screen. Overtake my home page and shit. I did an adware scan and was swarmed by parasites that it found.

What do I have to do now?

Well, I'm sure I didn't do it the 'right' way. I found each program that I did'nt recognize and deleted anything that would delete. Try to cripple them. Some of them you can move to the 'desktop' and then they are deletable. Disconnect from the internet. If you can get to safe mode, that will keep a lot of drivers from loading. I believe it got into my IE favorites. I deleted them and used an older favorite file. I hate to say it, but the best solution is to reformat your PC, don't install anything until you upgrade to the latest MS updates. Restore just fixed the OS, but did'nt remove the crap. It came back. I wish I had noted all the programs, but I didn't. Two of the worst were Casino.exe and Internet Optimiser. Some I could change the properties of and jam them up. They disabled Norton Antivirus, and my Spybot apparently was'nt the latest version. The final straw was when it killed my Search in the OS, then I couldn't trace them down. There was about 3 search programs in the package, 2 of them in IE. One was Searchbar and another IE search. The others were just adware and spyware programs. I've been 2 days without all this shit, but I still cringe everytime I log on. Reformat and start from ground zero is still the best method, unless someone has a better idea. Good luck. I've never ran into anything this pervasive.

  11. You might want to look in this folder

    \WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files

Anything suspicious can be right-click > Remove and gone!

    Get this program : HIJACKTHIS
    http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/

Can't reach this page from a CWS infected computer?
    Try using http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/index.html.

Run it , "scan" , post 'dump' of the files here for examination.

Most spyware programs run at startup, so you can't delete them from you system directory.

To keep them from starting at start up edit you registry. The usual place for them is in this key

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

Backup your registry before you change anything.

Some spyware will also install keys in the CLSID section. If you run Bazooka ( http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/ ) and it detects spyware/addware, it will give you detailed manual delete process. You need a working internet connection for this program to work.

Don't click on pop up adds and you won't get any spyware installed. Read the EULA on shareware and freeware programs to ensure they don't have these wares with them.

If you have kids that put this crap on your PC, disable java script and active X componets with you browser.

  14. So instead of closing them, should I close it through the task manager?

I don't have kids, it is my laptop. I am only 18.

You can shut them down in taskmanager, if you can see them. There is also a program that is called "EndItAll" that will show you other processes running that may be invisible to taskmanager. Also a program called "Kill Processes" that does the same thing.

If you still cannot delete them, then your best bet is to boot to safe mode and delete them.

Reformatting is not necessary unless you are needing or wanting to do it anyway.

Like zedolfblack said you should clean out "\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files" and also do not forget about your windows prefetch folder (XP).

You can also check out some websites like www.blackviper.com and www.call-kelly.com (I think), there are some registry files that you can download to prevent things like changing home page and some other security plugs for IExplorer.

  17. Are you getting this through the Messenger? This is a different messenger than MSN Messenger. I think it's a service messenger to be used with networks, but I'm not so sure.

Anyhow, in your Run window (start menu) type: services.msc

Scroll down to Messenger, right click and in the Startup Type box, change to DISABLE. Problem solved.

There is a whole mess of services that can be disable this way, but be careful, some of them are needed. Blackviper has a list of the ones that are ok to disable. I think that's where I learned this trick anyways!

Tell me if this solved your prob. Gotta go, Ninja Gaiden is calling me!

  18. One idea

Click Start - Run - Type regedit

Then Press F3 or click "edit" select "Find..."

Then type the file name, some f@ckin spyware bastards use the manufacturer name instead of the program name then delete all the registries under that name. Ad-Aware or spybot should find them though

  19. Spybot and adaware usually kill off anything bad in my system. But sometimes I will have to go into the startup list and clear something. I found that the program "End it All" is good at seeing some processes that windows three finger salute wont show.

Spyware seems to be a repeating word this month for me. I spent 4 hours on the phone with my aunt earlier this month getting rid of like 7 programs that gummed up her machine so bad it was slower than mine. And she has a 1Ghz 256MBram compared to my 500Mhz 64MB RAM. LOL

  20. Wow, isn't it time for a new computer devine? I went through and rid of a lot of shit. It seems to be working a lot better and when I scan, not nearly as muchs stuff is detected. No more popups, either. I want to thank you all, each on of your tips contributed.

I had to use a little from each person and it all combined to eradicate the problem(for good I hope).

    Thanks,

Probably. But my friend money wont work with me. LOL I have tweaked my machine so much that with 98SE it runs pretty damn fast and stable. I am thinking of putting win2000 in since my girl gave me a copy of her disc.

Congratulations on getting rid of it without wiping out your HD.
This has happened to me 3 times now in the last month. These spyware programs attack your computer just as you open a web page. You do not have to do anything on that page just open it. I don't think the owners of the visited sites even knew about it. These spyware programs are quit sofisticated now, all of mine attached themselves to other programs and I could not delete them all. On the computer with windows XP, I got off easy, I just restored the computer to the day before and it worked both times (now I try to reboot everyday so I have a recent restore date). On the computer with windows 98 I had to wipe out the HD, and reinstall everything. I tried everything I could find except spyware removal programs, but I could not delete the contaminated files.
The dam programs took over the internet dialer, so that there home page showed up, and if I would have been using a phone line they would have directed me to a high cost phone line (like a 900 number). The home page of the internet dialer porgram was in some ways funny. The list of choices on "how I installed this program" were all volintary installations. Noware did it say anything about being hijacked, and there removal plan didn't work either.
Lastly I was hesitant about the spyware programs, because about 1/4 of the pop up ads were "your computer has been hit by spyware buy our probram to get rid of it". Seemed to me they zoomed in like ambulance chacers.

i disagree. i have never clicked on a popup, but still got n-cased. it came piggybacked on the driver installer for my Epson C84 printer. a friend in another part of the country had the same problem.

if you have dual boot, load up the other OS and run spybot. saves lots of hassle. guess windows ME is still good for something....

  24. Although it's too late in your instance. Once you get it fixed (and you will) you should adopt a backup proceedure. There are several good programs for this (mine is norton ghost). I backup religiously every weekend to one DVD, it only takes about 30 min.(probably far less time than you have spent trying to get rid of your booger).

When I start haveing suspicious activity on my computer due to what you have or even corrupted files, it only takes 30 minutes to make it right. These things never seem to infect the second hard drive (unfortunantly not an option for a laptop) so I store most unreplacable data on this drive (I backup that one, or portions of it, once a month.

The best offense is a good defense and it keeps your blood pressure low.
If it works, don't fix it.

  25. I am just so glad I got rid of this crap. I think the government should crack down on these people that invade privacy and install shit on computers without people realizing it. It is really dangerous with fraud and stuff going on now.

That won't happen since the government does the same thing.

  27. The lady next door asked me once to see if could find why her computer was acting so weird (slow, popup galore, error messages, etc.) I installed ADAWARE on her computer and she had 169 spyware and tracking programs installed on her hard drive, that has to be some kind of record.

The net is full of hazards. I also cannot imagine why people do this kind of vandalism. I suppose some people are just 'sick' and get their jollies this way. I hate that I have to install firewalls, etc. to stop this stuff.
If it works, don't fix it.

You are right. I would never even click on a pop up add, let alone buy something from one. There is no chance in hell those people could get any money from me. This kind of thing has to work against them. Most companies try to have a good reputation, but if you even remembered the name of one of the adds you would think of them as scum.
    Thanks Mike.

Look for a program called CWShredder also...I use that with Spybot and that combination usually gets rid of crap like that fairly easily.

  30. How ironic, today there was an article in the paper on 180 solutions which developed nCASE. They are based in Bellevue, WA which is 15 mins from my home. I can get a link up here if you guys want to read the article.
