  1. Hello.I have been keeping all of my back ups in the CD jewel cases that they have been coming in but I am running out of storage room for them.I was wondering if it would be safe to put them into the notebooks like the ones you put CDs into?
I have my normal DVDs like this but I don't know if DVDRs are more sensitive or fragile than regular DVDs.
    Thank you.
    :-)

    emperor5,
If storage space is an issue, you don't need to worry about damaging your DVDr's in a "CD Wallet" you can easily store 128 discs in a booklet the size of an encyclopedia, some booklets have a large enough pocket to fit paper DVD/CD sleeves over your discs although it's not necessary IMO. I'd rather slip a disc in to one of those cloth backed pockets than in a dusty ole jewel case anyday, the only thing to watch out for is the booklets with zippers around the outside can scratch if you're not careful, A side benefit is if you're not using the jewel cases you just need to buy media in spindle packs which is usually cheaper anyway.

  3. {ST 0032} 80 Disc DJ Style Case
DJ's or people with a large collection of discs require specialist storage. After looking long and hard, we have found a solution which we think will be ideal. This is the disc equivalent of the type of case that DJ's have traditionally used for vinyl storage. The strong metallic finish case holds strong plastic indexed sleeves (sleeves are included) which will keep a large collection of discs safe and organised.
    Size in mm: 167 x 170 x 198
Price: £4.98 Including VAT at 17.5%
Also come in lager sizes but i find the 80 size to be easy to store...Cases are really strong and lockable thus keeps little fingers out...

  5. storage is a big problem for me too. Not just DVD's, but cds also.

i have started using those tyvek envelopes with the windows, strong and extremely scratch resistant (if handled normally). Then I get those alphabetical tabs, using different colors for different media (Movies, Music, Software, Backups, etc.) The hardest thing was finding a sturdy wooden chest that had drawer sturdy enough to hold the weight. Has worked out great. Eliminated two book shelves from my room.
If it works, don't fix it.

the wallets work ok, i dont like to use them anymore though. i noticed if i took out and put back too many time the discs started to get scratched up pretty bad. i still prefer slim jewel cases if its something im going to keep for along time.

I use vinyl sleeves and keep them in 5 1/4 inch (old floppy) plastic boxes similar to those used for 3 1/2 inch diskettes only bigger. Work superbly and you can fit a LOT of disks into them. Older stuff -> on spindles (great space savers).

  10. Coming from a photgraphic background and having stored a lot of negatives over the years I've always had lingering doubts about the long-term storage of disks in wallets. Can we be sure that disks will be unaffected long-term by the material of the wallets, or am I just being paranoid?

I suppose, if you think about it, spindles should be the best place for backups. As long as they are kept clean then the disks are ideally stored, with no part of the working face in contact. Not ideal for retrieval, but then they are backups - rarely accessed but always there, and as compact as it gets. Compact is important, for me at least, since it's easier to securely stash a couple of spindle tubs than an armful of jewel cases.

I've been playing with these 'magazine' type storage boxes - like a juke box, with a selector button to pull the disk you want. Brilliant access, very compact and again no contact on the disk face. Like to see them cheaper before I commit to a lot though.
