Hi,
I been capping from my miniDV camera via firewire to windows (98 and 2k) over the past few months with out much problem. I use the cap prog that came with Vegas Video. Recently i got a dazzle hollywood dv bridge for my analogue caps, so i can use my firewire card, and not have to install another cap card. this works with great results, and supurb quality from digital tv, but is very unreliable. the various cap progs i have, including the ones which came with the bridge, all seem to give the same results, ie it can never make up its mind wether to cap a full 20mins or crash after a few minutes. i realised i'd never experianced this prob with the camera, cos ive never tried to cap more than a few minutes, and when i tried to cap a longer piece, windows hung. it happens in both 98 and 2k. my pc is fine for all the editing and CAD work i do, but it makes me want to get something like an iMac to cap from firewire. apparently macs dont even need drivers from the dazzle bridge, it just works, and nearly all macs have firewire as standard. my real question is, if i get a cheap imac, just for capturing, how easily will i be able to transfer the files accross to my pc? i already bought alot of expensive editing software, and i dont want to buy some more for the mac. i read somewhere on this forum where a guy was ftping his data accross to his pc from his mac via tcp-ip, which isn't a problem cos i already have a lan setup in my house. what i thought though, is is there a way of transfering the video files across via the firewire, ie dv out from the mac to the dv in of the pc? has anyone else though about or tried this?
