A lot of advertising on the Panasonic S35 lists it as a -R player and not a +R player.

But in some places it is advertised as handling +R also.

Users on this forum report it handles +R

I just got a burner and am shopping for media so this confused me a little. Although it seems it will read both -/+,
1. Is -R preferred for this player![]()
2. If it reads R of either type, can one infer it will read RW of the same type![]()

Panasonic does not officially support the +R/RW format, but that doesn't mean the S35 is incompatible with the plus format. In reality, the S35 is one of the few DVD players which are compatible with almost all DVD formats (DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW and DVD-RAM) and recording modes (DVD-Video, DVD-VR, and DVD+VR), the downside is that the player is a little slower in recognizing the disc especially when reading DVD-RAM discs. If you happen to own a DVD-RAM/DVD-RW standalone recorder, the S35 (or the upcoming S27) would be a very good companion.
