After reading some of these threads I decided to visit my local Walmart and pick up some Maxell DVD+R media at $16.84 for a 10 pack which also comes with the jewel case. Just to let everyone know, the outside of the package indicated they were made in Tawian and they are actually RicohJPN disks. Haven't tested them yet but I was hoping they would have been the true Maxell. Oh well, this is the game we play. Good luck.

The maxell DVD+R's were always made in Taiwan and were Always Ricoh discs. I don't know where you got any other idea from.

The discussions for Maxell made media only pertained to DVD-R media, which is MXL RG02.

Maxell has until now never made +R discs themselves, although i have heard (on cdfreaks forums) that maxell +R media has started to show up, suggesting that they have started getting into +R.

However this is hearsay, and this +R media made by maxell is rare (if not non-existent). All +R MAxell media is RICOH, and is probably no different from the TDK, Memorex, Imation, (INSERT BRAND HERE) Ricoh discs.

    Cheers.

The MAXELL 4x DVD-R discs are the discs that you want and they are $16.84 per 10-pack at Walmart.

I suggest you take your +R 10-pack back and try to explain that you need -R and that that is all your burner will do.

My guess is they will take it back.

@Fulci: How do these Richo's fare? I bought two packs. Should I at least keep one or is this crappy media? Thanks.

If your DVD burner can do -R that is the better media ... no reason to use DVD+R unless you know for a fact that one or more of your DVD players have trouble with -R media but that usually isn't the case ... usually it is te DVD+R media that doesn't play back well.

In any event the Maxell DVD-R discs are higher quality than the +R discs in my opinion and since the price is the same ... I see no reason to bother with the +R discs.

    FulciLives,

You probably burning your 4x -R disks at 8x and 2x -RW disks at 4x with your Pioneer A-WHATEVER.

You should read these articles and educate yourself:

High speed DVD-RW media incompatibility with old drives:

    OK there Freak-A-Zoid ...

Plus I now use and have been using for a long time the NEC ND-1300A which burns at 4x

    Go away.

No point in burning 8x if the DVD media is garbage aka DVD+R discs

    How do you know?

You didn't read those articles and didn't educate yourself.

You probably still burning Princos -R disks at 1x in 57 minutes.

  10. That's no BETTER format people, period!

What's "better"? Ok+R is technically superior than -R but a lot of old DVD players won't play it, that surely it isn't "better". Now -RW (supposedly) is gonna have compatibility issues so it isn't "better" either. And I feel like +R is better this week because it's on sale, and -R was better last week!

    That's like just like arguing about Coke/Pepsi, MJ/Prince, Britney/Christina...

LmAO again about DVD-R & DVD+R discs from wally worlds. Ummm the moderator shut down that other thread bout wally world Maxell DVD-R. Go Fucilives!

I just bought a cheap Liteon 411S 4x dvd dual format burner that is able to use a bitsetting tool. I've burned RICOH 4x DVD+R using the bitsetting tool and it's able to be played back on dvd players that only can play DVD-R. It's cool that some drives are able to have a bitsetting tool. The bitsetting tool is from the official Liteon website. My Plextor is a great drive too!

Get whatever dvd media that works on your dvd burner and standalone players. I get dvd media that is on sale at the local wally worlds, office depot and compusa. I only buy when there is a sale. Still waiting for Office Depot to put the Maxell DVD-R & DVD+R & Imation DVD+R on sale again.

The Maxell DVD+R (RICOHJPN) are not junk, normally working quite well, but they are expensive. These discs should not be more than $1 each.

They are a far cry from the Maxell DVD-R (MXLRG02 and MXLRG01) media, in terms of quality an reliability.

If given the choice, leave those DVD+R on the shelves.

Wait, nevermind, YOU take the DVD+R so I can buy the DVD-R ... found zero available at the store near me today, wanted to pick up a pack.
