I would like to announce the first release of afreeCodecVT.
afreeCodecVT (Video Tool) Allows anyone to load a .AVI file to determine the Audio / Video codecs. Once the codecs are determined you can then have the option to download, search, or use other sources to find the codec you need.
Any input, comments, or suggestions will be taken into consideration. afreeCodecVT will be updated frequently with the demands from the video community.
You may download this tool from the official page below.

Here are a few new options in the next release...
1. Preview Video / Audio
This will allow the user to preview the clip instantly after the codec has been installed. You can also run a video to see if the audio or video is missing.
4. Live Update
Live update will download new codec definitions and show you
what has been updated.
2. Turn Ontop on / off.
3. Added tooltips to buttons.
4. afreeCodecVT is now in taskbar.
afreeCodecVT was downloaded 250 times on its first day.
Thanks for all those who have tested! -
you know how sometimes a codec can play a file and it was encoded using a totally different codec?
what about adding a feature to determine which codec the file is currently using, and if a download of a new/different codec is recommended?
or to find out what codecs are currently installed on your system, and an option to see what you need and what you dont? such like, telling me when the codec was used last and for what purpose?
i just thought it would be useful. -
Great Idea mob, we will definitly look into those features.
(Listed Below)
- Option to see what codec is used during video.
- Option to view installed codecs. (audio/video)
- Option to install / uninstall codecs.
Thanks again -
Yes it currently only supports .AVI files.
Other implementions will be added in the future, however we are focusing on getting all the bugs, and major features implamented, then expand from there. Its best to work with one system at a time to provide efficient software with minimal issues.
We may also implament a Macintosh version of this software depending on the demand.
