  1. I am having serious problems.

I have read through loads of the guides and tutorials on here, but I cant get anything to work (even after downloading countless programs).

I´m looking for the quickest and easiest way to burn 2 or 3 film length avi files (some of which are in 2 parts) to a dvd.

I started with Nerovision express, which works for some, but others it puts the sound out by a fraction of a second every 10 seconds or so, so by the end of the film, it´s about 2 minutes behind. Very frustrating, especially as the originals dont go out of sync at all.

Then I tried to use TMPGEnc, and succesfully ended up with 1 avi file in two parts, converted to m2v files, with seperate audio tracks (mp2). However, unlike Nerovision, TMPGEnc dvd author does not give me the option to compress the files, therefore, I cant even fit one of the films onto the dvd.

Please can someone help me, I´ve tried so many programs and such like, but to no joy. Surely there must be a program out there that can convert my avi files, and allow me to fit at most, 2 film length files on a dvd, and burn it correctly, with the sound not going out of sync!

Two ways to start you off:

    1. When loading the movies into TMPGEnc Plus, adjust the bitrate so that the movies will fit on one DVDR. Use the bitrate calculator here.

    2. Proceed through using TMPGEnc DVD Author and Ignore the over disc space warning. Then shrink the output.

One thing to keep in mind is that 2 or 3 film length AVIs would be roughly 4.5 - 5 hours. Your bitrate will be in SVCD range.

A way I use to get around this is to encode at VCD res (352 x 288 in PAL land) and up the bitrate to the desired level. I have managed to get 6 hours on one DVD at around 1500 kbps. It is logical that 1500 kbps to cover 352 x 288 will give better results quality-wise than using 720 x 576 at that same bitrate.
    If in doubt, Google it.

The out of sync, you can normally avoid by saving the audio track in uncompressed wav using fx virtualdub, and encode that wav to mp2.

  4. dmmrs,

First of all, welcome to the forum. Since you have done the work with the TMPGEnc. to create the .m2v and mp2 files, here are my suggestions:

    * Continue with TMPGEnc DVD Author (same suggestion with jimmalenko). It will complain that the size are too big. Ignore it. TMPGEnc DVD Author will create the necessary VOB, BUP, IFO files.

    * Use DVDShrink to open this newly created DVD structure (i.e. in DVDShrink use Open File and point to the directory the new DVD structure resides), and shrink to the desire 4.37GB.

    * Load in to PowerDVD or WinDVD and watch it. If the transcoding from DVDShrink is not desirable, then you have to start over and follow jimmalenko's suggestion to adjust the bitrate when converting in TMPGEnc. On the other hand, if it's OK, then burn it.

    Cheers,

Was it just me, or did Viper basically echo me ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

That must be a wide canyon, since that echo took almost twoo hours to come back.

I was going to suggest Minoxidil for the hair problem, but then he'll probably credit someone else who suggests it later :P
