    i live in england so use pal but the guides i follow tell me to convert avi files and mpegs to ntsc b4 burning onto disc, i said in another post i sometimes get a slight juddering effect, noticable but not anything drastic if i use a pal template in tmpgenc would it clear that up or make no differance

    If you have pal stick with the pal template,converting to ntsc without the proper steps will give it the jerks.You only need to convert to ntsc if your dvd player doesnt play pal so that wont be a problem for you.

    Absolutely you must stick to PAL if that is what you have. I recently created my own template using the following guide, it does not take too long to save the template and the results were very good. I would suggest trying it out. The encoding takes a long time, but that is where you are ensuring some better output.

  4. If your source is PAL convert to PAL, if your source is NTSC convert to NTSC.

    this might be a silly question, but how do i find out if my source is pal or ntsc? like if its an xvid for example, or divx, mpeg

    The frame rate is the clue. 25 fps=PAL, anything else not PAL (23.976=NTSC Film (use pull down in those), 29.97=NTSC). Use GSpot to find out what your AVI really is.
