  1. My dvd rom drive will rip a normal dvd but it will not rip a already burnt dvd but I can play them fine on the drive.
Is there a problem with dvdrom drives not ripping burnt discs?
My burner does this fine but its slower and it's extra wear and tear on it.
    Thanks

If I had to lay money on it, I would say that the burnt DVDs were backed up with DVD X copy.

I've not experienced difficulty ripping burned discs, but several folks around here, have had problems ripping discs backed up using that program.

Did it ever occur to you that your burnt DVD is already free of protections? Just copy the files to your harddrive.

  4. I am trying to rip the files to the hard drive as well with DVD Decrypter from the dvd rom drive but it always fails at 3% I have tried Nero, Dvd Decrypter and smart ripper but it just cant seem to rip any dvd that is already recorded and the drive is not even a year old but it will play burnt dvds just fine. The dvds r's are Ritek.
What I am trying to get done is copy a burnt dvd without have to use my burner to both read and write it
Because of extra wear and tear plus it is way slower and I also have to come over and throw a blank in after it reads it so I have to hang around while it burns.
I just want to put a blank in the burner and the copy in the dvd rom let Nero copy it to the hard drive then burn it.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

If the DVD is already burnt, use Decrytper in ISO > read mode since the disc is already under 4.7 GB. Then use Decrypter in ISO > write mode to burn straight away.

To your problem of not being able to rip the DVD....make sure your IDE channel that your DVD-ROM drive is attached to is DMA enabled.

Go to device manager......control panel > System > hardware tab > middle section.

Go to your IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, click the plus sign and double click the IDE channel your DVD-ROM is on. (usually secondary)

In the IDE channel properties window, click the "Advanced Settings" tab. Device 0 is the master drive on that 80 pin connector tape, Device 1 is the slave. If it say "PIO mode" change it to say DMA. You'll have to restart your PC for settings to take effect.

This sounds like your problem, I have had problems ripping some DVDs in my ROM drive...I don't know why, but you'll want DMA enabled anyway, even if it doesn't fix your problem.

Your issue seems to be hardware related to me. I would check the cables, make sure the jumper settings on the DVD drives are right, DMA enabled them. Make sure the disc is not scratched.

If you are using the new version of DVD Decrypter 3.2.x.x (I think), you might try an older version, some folks have had some ripping and burning issues with the new release.

I'll second this. COpy them with windows explorer. Works like a charm.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. I went into windows explorer and copied the files on the burnt dvd in the dvd rom drive and copied them to another folder and it worked just fine.
So why won't it work when I do it in dvd decrypter to make a ISO or when I try to copy it with Nero.
Does anyone do a "on the fly" copy?
How do you copy an already burnt dvd?
    Thanks for all the help

    rondog,

You just said that you could copy the files to your Hard Drive no worries....

    So...

Load these files either into IMGTools to make an ISO image or straight into your favorite burning software.

    Hey presto !

You have made a backup of a backup.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  9. Yeah I will give that a shot but don't it seem like you should be able just to put the burnt disc in the dvd rom and the blank in the burner and just let Nero read from the rom then burn to the burner drive? I just can't understand why I have to copy the files in windows explorer and no other ripping tool can do it. Is this how other people have to do it as well?
    Thanks for all the help

Copying DVDs on the fly is not reliable its always best to let the files go to your HD first and burn from there . As reguards your DVD Rom not reading the disc it may not be a particularly well burnt disc. Your DVD-RW has a much more powerful laser and has more chance of reading from a disc. I don't know exactly what it is called I Guess a 'weak burn' or something like that.
