  1. Firstly, all my footage is shot in 16:9 format on my Sony PC100. I then capture this and load it into Adobe Premier 6.0 and work on it with a 16:9 preset and output to AVI. The AVI is in 16:9 and works perfectly.

I've loaded this into Ulead DVD Workshop V2.0 and created menus etc from the footage when I burn this to DVD the menus are all 4:3 but the footage is correctly 16:9. I want the whole DVD to be 16:9.

I've followed the advise by Jerry Jones to bring up the advanced menu (why ever is this hidden???). There are two strange things here. If I select a new disc template and call it "WideScreen", and select 16:9 under the advanced menu and then close it, I can select it for the Project but it never sticks i.e. I reopen the Project Properties and the disc template has defaulted back to High Quality (Approx 60 minutes DVD).

Also, if I edit the High Quality (approx 60 minutes DVD) option and select 16:9 under Advanced that information never appears in the main Disc Template Manager window - under properties it still says 4:3 aspect ratio even though I've selected it to be 16:9 under advanced.

If I carry on, the menus are still 4:3. Is there another hidden setting that I need to activate to force the menus into 16:9?

I'm getting so close to what I've been trying to do for years, back in 1998 when I bought my Pinnacle DV500 it wouldn't even support 16:9? How we've come on

Any help on this would be extremely appreciated

    Kind Regards

  2. Ulead DVD WORKSHOP 2.0 does not support 16:9 aspect ratio menus, but I understand that's under development for the future.

If you're searching for a possible workaround, I would warn I have not tried what I am about to suggest.

However, it is possible to use Ulead PhotoImpact to create the .UFO file format (Ulead File For Objects) utilized to create the menu templates in all Ulead DVD authoring applications.

I have written a step-by-step tutorial about how to use Ulead PhotoImpact XL to modify existing menu templates on the Web page at the following link:

    http://www.jonesgroup.net/photoimpactxldvdstepone.htm

I suspect it *might* be possible to create a 16:9 aspect ratio menu using Ulead PhotoImpact XL.

Again, this is just a theory on my part.

However, I suspect one could create a 1050x576 menu in Ulead PhotoImpact XL, then 'squash' the image to 768x576 - that is switch off the option to maintain aspect ratio.

When I get some time, I'll give it a try and if it works, I'll write a tutorial.

    FYI:

There's a new update patch for Ulead DVD WORKSHOP 2.0 on the Web page at the following link:

Here is a simple work around.

    1. Do your stuff in workshop as normal.
    2. When you are ready to create your disk
choose to only create DVD folder and Burn
    3. When finished use ifoedit on the ifo menu file and change the 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9 Letterbox.

    4. Burn to disk

What i found is 16x9 menu's arent supported by all dvd players and arent in the dvd specs so its best to test with dvdrw first to make sure your player will play them right.
