I burned a dvd from a VHS, using ADS PYRO AV Link and Ulead Studio 7. Picture is great, sound is in sync, and it plays back on pc just fine. I put it in my ONKYO DVD player, and it plays back with sound to my surround sound setup, but no sound using TV volume. Tried to play it on neighbors DVD player, and no sound was played. Do I need to convert the sound to a different format?? I'm fairly new to this, but I've spent weeks digging though this and other forums, and haven't seen anything about this...

Did you use PCM (wav) audio?

If so, you'll have to change the output setting in the DVD Player's setup menu.

Do I need to save to a different audio format to be compatible with all players, and if so, how do I do that, and what format do I use.

PCM is compatible with all DVD Players. Most people just don't have their dvd players setup correctly to decode the PCM bitstream. They usually don't come from the factory setup that way.

So did you use PCM? The only other to audio codecs are mp2 and ac3. MP2 is not NTSC DVD compliant, but can be played back by most DVD players.

Yes! I used PCM. So, does the DVD player pass the video to the TV?

Of course the dvd player passes the video to the tv, how would you see the picture?

Seriously though, just go into the setup menu of your DVD Player and change the way it handles PCM audio. The way to never deal with this again is to use AC3 audio.

You'll need both an AC3 encoder and an authoring package that can author with AC3 audio.

Since you already have Ulead Video Studio you want to visit Ulead.com and get an upgrade.

TMPG DVD Author supports AC3 and has a 2/0 encoder rather cheap.

I appreciate the input. I'll give the AC/3 thing a try.
