Can you change the VOB file name to make or combine a single TRACK? Is it that simple?

Ex: lets say you have VOB file names

    VTS_01_0.VOB
    VTS_01_1.VOB

Then lets say you have another TRACK with file names

    VTS_02_0.VOB
    VTS_02_1.VOB

Could I just rename the above file names to:

    VTS_01_0.VOB
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB

and NOW HAVE a single TRACK? What about the IFO and BUP files which are left behind? I guess I need to have a tool to redo the IFO and BUP files?

or is this just a waste of time?

So, what is the relationship between VOB file names and TRACKS? (Is there a relationship per se?)

    THANKS!!

I think it may be easier if you just post you are trying to do. I do know VobEdit can join VOBs, but there may be a simpler solution, e.g., DVD Shrink's Re-Author mode.

    Try https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/120021.php

It's not perfect but it works.

    Thanks!

What I am trying to do is take 2 TRACKs from TWO different DVD's (both of which combined are less then a DVD5) and burn it to a single DVD.

The new DVD5 does not need to have any kind of menu's... the only real desire is that the chapters within each of the TRACKs be kept and that there is only a single TRACK after _________ process is complete.

The reason I thought changing the filenames would work, is because the technical support guy at Nero, recode said as much. I thought it wasn't possiable. (There is a merge function on the recode application, but this function doesn't MERGE titles on the DVD, just places the titles in one place while working with all of the titles. Not very helpful, if you ask me, but it is, what it is.)

anyway... will rename files COMBINE TRACKS?

    THANKS!!

    Thanks!

I was reading the link... and have a question or two...

What is PGC (and what is it) and what or where is a CELL mean in context of IFO's? And what is a VTS sector?

    Thanks!!

I do not think so. The navigation function of whichever DVD you use the IFO files from will wreak havoc. I still believe using the DVD Shrink Re-Author will work best, but as the oldd saying goes -- It's your nickel.

Ok, so you have the opinion that I had (prior to getting confused with the NERO tech) that I need to recode all of this and not just simple change a few file names.

BTW: did you see my question in the last post... we been posting so fast

    thanks again!!

Using DVDShrink in re-author mode will definately work, but it will not give you seamless playback. It will create two separate titles, thus giving you a brief pause between clips. If this isn't a problem, it may be your best bet.

no seamless playback is NOT entirely important. Curious though, if it was an issue, WHY does this happen? and HOW would I cure that problem?

    Thanks!!

DVDShrink can't place both those clips in one title yet. Hopefully in a future revision. The reason you get a pause is that the player has to access the next clip(s) in subsequent folders. It will actually show up as if they were extras. Make sure to keep all your IFO's and BUP's when you bring them into DVDShrink, otherwise it will not recognize them and give you an error.

Curing them with free tools will require VOBedit and IFOedit, but as I said in my first post, it isn't perfect. I would like to purchase a DVDAuthoring package which will allow this, but I'm a bit short on cash at the moment with just having bought a house. The wife doesn't think it's a good idea right now which sucks for me.

There are 2 ways I can think of:

    1. Use TMPGEnc DVD Author to add DVD Video. You can place both items on the one track seamlessly.

    2. Rename VTS_01_1.VOB to VTS_01_001.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB to VTS_01_002.VOB, VTS_02_1.VOB to VTS_01_003.VOB, VTS_02_2.VOB to VTS_01_004.VOB, and use VOBEdit to join them into one titleset. Then use IFOEdit to create VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO & VTS_01_0.BUP.
    If in doubt, Google it.
