any hardware that uses system resources to do what could have been done by adding a bit more to the hardware, such as the winmodem, having windows and your system resources doing the data pump.

Oh and did I forget anything jumperless, especially if it doesn't give a software way to manipulate things.

hmm, so far winmodem meets both criteria. LOL. Think you might have a winner.

    Winmodem

Not only do they hog system resources... I could just about put up with that... Its the fact that you can only use them under Windoze (Well 1% of them work under Linux etc... - if you can find a driver).

true true. When I had a 56k modem in my system, my buddy would razz me a bit about it being ISA. I'm like hey first off the data pump is hardware driven on it and it doesn't hog resources to fabricate its own little realm and I can use it with slackware. LOL. I've been without my trusty 56k for almost 2 years now, sniff sniff, tear, poor old girl was a good one, to bad she couldn't keep up with my broadband. LOL, well that and my system doesn't have any isa slots now.

I always thought that winmodem was designed to piss off the linux users.

    have a good one.

well actually according to apple users its excellent for desktop publishing. I personally think they are trying to justify the money they spent, but hey what the heck.

though it is a valid point, as I pointed out to one of my friends when he asked me my opinion on apple. "When you walk into a software store, look around and see what you can buy for an apple, then look what you can buy for an ibm, and if you choose apple I'll slap you"

    LOL

    have a great day.

I only mention it because it only holds certain kinds of cups - not all kinds.

I agree with jmiller. Why in th world would anyone integrate sound and video into the mobo. Takes too many resources and causes alot of conflics if you decide that you want to add a separate video or sound card later on.

Mac's arent PC's so cannot be one of the worst PC inventions. Apple Macs are also exceptional media machines, especially the Power Macs, they are a bit too expensive for what they are... thats true.

Another contender - the standard PC case. Bland, beige and boring. Apart from a few like those from Coolermaster, they are slick.

    why yes, that site. ROTFLMAO.

I even e-mailed it to all my buddies, I figure every guy

True integrating the components annoys the heck out of me.
I avoid those motherboards at all costs, well okay maybe not all costs given I have an intel vc820 with the sound card intergrated, but that is all that is integrated. LOL.
video card integration is the most annoying to me, my buddy has an amd k6-2 with integrated agp card at 2x (yuck, LOL) and it takes 8MB of his physical memory and they didn't even offer an agp port to install a different card.

oh, d4n13l, well actually given pc stands for personal computer then you don't even consider a mac a computer? LOL
    that works for me.

    http://macbs.8m.com/

lets see operating systems that work on an ibm: linux (any flavor), winslow (I mean windows), unix, dos, and pretty much anything except apple's os.

what operating systems work on macs: apple's os, anything else works within that operating system, if you can find a way to do it.

have a wonderful and delightful day.

Tigerwolf (Your profile:"Jack of all trades"... master of none - LOL)
you just shot yourself in the foot!
A Mac is not a PC... same as an Amiga 500 wasnt a PC, same as the PS/2 isnt a PC, same as a PowerPC isnt a PC, same as a Sparc system isnt a PC, same as an Alpha system isnt a PC. Any computer is not automatically a PC, PCs are just one type of computer.
By saying that a Mac wont run Windoze etc. Is like trying to get a petrol car to take diesel - they are incompatible.
A PC is a computer based on the original IBM PC standards.
Ie. IBM-PC compatible. This standard is a bit lax these days - but an Apple Mac is no way a PC. PC is x86 architecture - Athlon, Duron, Celeron, P3/4', Xeon, Cyrix etc. Macs have a different architecure to PCs, they have their own processors and their own hardware standards. In fact, a standard PC compared to a Power Mac is lame.

P.S. Linux can run on Macs - Linux/PPC.

If it werent for Apple then you wouldnt be looking at pretty pictures right now; you would have a textual display and your browser would still be called Lynx.
Apple gave us the mouse and the GUI, which was promptly copied by M$. Besides, is there an M$ monopoly with Macs as there is with the PC?
Be thankful there is an alternative, Apple Macs are accutely misunderstood by PCers - A Power Mac will crap on most PCs, speed wise... Yes, even with a "paltry" 600Mhz chip. Just as a 600Mhz Sparc CPU would.

P.S. That website, thank zzyzzx for that one. I got it from one of his posts a few months ago and never forgot it.

ROTFLMAO, wow I really got you going didn't I d4n13l.
Yes I know, I know, I was just having a bit of fun with the whole pc thing. Geez, some people are so touchy. I also know that windows wouldn't be what it is without apple and etc.

the jack of all trades, shot myself in the foot aye? LOL
Well given I view life as more then just what I do for money, I figured it was appropriate. I fix stuff around the house, take care of my kids, work on the car, etc. I don't proclaim to know everything nor do I proclaim to master anything, especially given that the world in which I work changes so rapidly that I'm not sure there really is such a thing as a master, though I know there are a ton of certifiable people

I must agree with the RDRAM statement.

    You have a lovely day.

hmm, though I guess now that you pointed out the occupation thing I'll have to change it. ROTFLMAO. hmm, thinking....
pondering.... I'll give it some thought then make a change.

Correction - Apple got the mouse and GUI from Xerox when Steve Jobs was given a tour of their facilities and a demonstration of their research. The guys at Xerox weren't even sure what they were going to do with it, they just developed it. In the Apple vs Microsoft GUIs case, the best saying comes from Bill himself this time that goes something along the lines of "We both broke into the same house".

To give credit where credit is due, Xerox invented, and Apple innovated. Draw your own conclusions about where Microsoft took it.

It doesn't matter - they're both good machines for porn, either way you slice it...

    tigercub,
hehe, there was someone else who nominated the Mac though. You did have me going though, well done. I just couldnt resist the "master of none" comment. Anyway, it wasnt wasted words, I hope some PCers took note.
... Wait a minute, what if that is your excuse? An attempt to coverup what you really did think - A triple bluff? Guess I'll just have to believe you. LOL

marsmayhem, if you wan to be pedantic then yes, you are right, but Apple were the people who brought it to the market none the same.

    Lets have more nominations...
