  1. I need a desktop dvd recorder that will allow me transfer recordings from my camcorder to dvd, then allow me to make copies using my PC. I understand many (may all, I don't know) will not allow me to make copies. The recordings must be re-recorded to dvd.

  2. Many of the models have a firewire input so you can transfer the DV from your camcorder and burn to DVD. Then just use one of the many DVD copying apps on your PC to make a copy. It should be easy. I suggest you look throught the "tools" section linked at the left of the page.

  3. "should be easy" is definitely the word! The disks made with the LiteOn 5001 play well on mot players, but copying them with a HP300n Dvd writer is a challenge. DVdDecrypter in ISO mode is the most reliable I have found so far, but even that doesn't work in every case. The disks are harder to copy than the so-called "Copy protected" commercial DVD's I have.

  4. I use the 'copy disc' function in ulead dvd movie factory 2 to copy dvds made on a Philips dvd recorder. 100% success. This includes discs that don't work when using iso read with dvdecrypter.

  5. I've learned it's much easier to copy the DVD+VR disks from the LiteOn 5001 if I read to ISO from a LiteOn brand DVD-rom drive, instead of trying to use my DVD writer. I bought a cheap LiteOn model 166S and so far it copies all my recorded disks to ISO with no errors. Faster than the +RW drive also. So the main problem was hardware compatibility.
