i was attempting to back up a dvd that i purchased. i downloaded the dvd decrypter and put the dvd on my hard drive. the problem was when i was trying to burn the dvd. the drive on my computer says the name of the drive and it ends with dvd+r. the burnable dvds i bought are dvd-r. the option to click on the drive and dvd to start the burn is unavailable.

If your burner is only capable of writing to +R media, buy +R. Likewise, if your burner is only capable of writing to -R media, buy -R.
(Which is why dual-format burners have become so popular in the past year.) -
Exactly.
Just for your information take a look at DVD Shrink for backing up your DVDs . I get the feeling most people use it.
