When I load a standard vcd file in TMPGEncAuthor, no problem, it automatically encodes the audio, and works perfect.

When a load an SVCD file, I get an error message that "it is
    not the proper format".
What's the deal? I always understood from reading various posts
that SVCD was very DVD compatible, except for the audio which must
be upsampled. Is this simply a TMPGEncAuthor bug?

    Thanks for your help

P.S. Heads up....TDK 4X DVD burner at Staples for $89

  2. Not true...Aside from the audio needing to be upsampled to 48k the video needs to be re-encoded to a resolution that is DVD compatable. SVCD's 480x480 NTSC is not DVD compatable. You can re-encode to 352x480.
No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space.

  3. Have you looked at DVD-lab?

It will accept your SVCD file and transcode the audio to 48Khz.

You can then create your DVD.

    No need to reencode.

I am aware of the compatibility issues with SVCD as I own a Pioneer 525 and 563. I did try it on the new 563 but not the older 525.

In the past I have used SVCD2DVD to overcome the Pioneer limitations.

On this last project I just took the NTSC SVCD and imported it into DVD-lab, transcoded the audio and created the VIDEO_TS folder. I then used ImgTool Classic to create the .ISO and DVD Decrypter to burn.

No problems and I have tested this on the APEX standalone also.

So if this process does not work for you then try SVCD2DVD.
