Will mac computeres generally play a dvd-r recorded on a Panasonic dvd recorder? A friend says no.

Can't see any reason it wouldn't. Assuming, that is, that it's not a DVD-RAM disc.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

as long as he finalized it, it should play. discs from our panny recorder at work, played in our mac.
