Latley I have been having problems burning to dvd, although the burn seems to go well with no errors reported on nero6. When the dvd is played it will jump or even crash and go to the menu. scanning the dvd with dvdinfo i always get errors near the end of the dvd.
See here.
I am using datasafe white top dvd-r at 4x on a nec 1300a with a hacked firmware.
have been using bulkpaq whitetop dvd+r at 2.4x with similar results.
Can anyone help with solutions to my problems.

defrag just before burning
if your file size is larger than 4.1 gig, try getting it down to 4 gig.
if no luck there, try ritek G04 media.
btw, did problem start when burner firmware was updated ?Always check helpfiles/instructions before leaping... -
Maybe it's the hacked firmware. You shouldn't use any firmware other than the firmware provided by the hardware vendor.

Hi everyone,
I have the same problem, so far i have tried everything and can't get a grip on what's wrong, someone out here must know:
Today i reinstalled my computer just to see if i could get any better results. I have P4 3 GHz, 1GB DDR, 2 x 160GB S-ATA Maxtor drives, i burn in Nero 6.0 Ultra Edition, i have tried cheap media but my 40 last burned DVDs was Ritek G04. I burn .img files and sometimes DATA
Every burn i have done has been successfuly, no coaster so far in 100 burn. When i load the movie in Intervideo WinDVD Platinum v5.1 5.26 sometimes the program crash (send error report), sometimes i must ctr+alt+del to kill the program and sometimes it starts, mostly it starts.
Then i do my choices at the menu and movie starts, IF try drag the level with my mouse let's say from almost start to middle of the movie it stopps like pause then i must go to root menu or X the program. If i step movie forward or watch from start, the movie will lagg/jump/freeze in here and there in the movie, sometimes it goes well for a period then it starts again.
If i watch the movie in my stational player connected to my TV the movie works much better and every 3-4 movie will have some freeze points in it but mostly you can watch the movie without any big problem.
I use NEC ND-2500A, Firmware is 1.06 (haven't changed it at all), i bought the drive 1 month ago, i had same problem with my last burner ND-1300A
PLEASE can someone assist, i dunno what to do, i have good DVDs, good burner, good computer, new reinstalled computer etc...etc...
My motherboard is : ASUS P4C800 E-Delux, my diskdrives are S-ATA connected and i have tried to use the burner on Primary IDE and secondary IDE, it's already master and right connected.
Thank you all for answers!!!
Rgds

sysop - for your dvd playback probs on pc, cuppla things:
1) noticed that windvd is now up to ver 5.3 ... might look at upgrade.
2) might try media player classic - freeware.Always check helpfiles/instructions before leaping... -
These types of burning problems are almost always shit ass media.
The more expensive media is WORTH it.
Try Taiyo Yuden DVD-R discs
You will have solid green aka NO READ ERRORS
cheap media is not worth the headaches

Another vote for shite media.
Another vote for Taiyo Yuden.
(Notice the errors start to appear as you travel out towards the edge of the disc. A-1 symptom of inferior media right there.) -
Thanx for your replys!
Their is a few things that i haven't tried yet and maybe it will help, first i will do a defrag then i will try to burn in 2x speed maybe these things will help. -
hacked firmware?! that could be the start of alot of probs. cheap media...get what u pay for, and sometimes less.
-
Hmmm, cheap media. Years ago I got 100 cd's for 100 bucks at a show. THAT was cheap as cd's were going for 2 bucks at the time. They didnt work.
For the most part I've always gone cheap, just not that cheap. I get the least expensive stuff at respectable establishents... which is what I call cheap. Check them often, I did have a bad spindle once... and in over 3000 blanks, not bad
Right now I have some Great Quality (GQ) 4x which were just under a buck each, and some Philips 2x which were closer to 80c each. All's well. I use the 4x to get it now, 2x before heading out the door or while posting some shiat on forums for 1/2 hour.
I recently had problems burning DVD's due to a bad hdd, but it was not completing the burn. I narrowed the problem down by creating and image, which also failed, thus not the Burner's fault...
Also had a problem with a DVD due to the original AVI having corruption toward the end. The DVD would stop and play, skipping chuncks at a time. Mabye something wrong with the time codes, but it was low quality anyway... I'm going to get a new source for that one.
Check the nero log file (save it after the burn). You have to go up about 10-20 lines in it to see where it started failing, if it did. It's not very pretty in that log, lol. Maybe it's trying to tell you something there even though it's completing the burns...?
Also, check your event log in windows.
Most likely, bad media or bad source. -
The datasafe DVD's I'm using are Ritec G04's, Just burnt one at 2x and it was clean all the way through.
Now am I going to have to burn at that speed to constantly get good results?? They are a 4x DVD after all.
Will it make a difference if I only burn up to 4GB, it looked to me that I was having problems way before that mark..
The firmware I am using is from Herrie, not had any bad reports on it, and it has enabled me to burn a greater variety of DVD's. Plus I am now region free. I was havings problems before I updated.
Thanks all for your help.
