I have the region-free box checked in Smartripper.

what gives? I have a DVD-5 I am trying to rip and reburn as a Region 1.

    any tips?

will a DVD2One "full disc" conversion do it?

Just curious, but why don't you use dvd decryptor?? Sounds like it should be burning as a region 1 though.

I started out using Smartripper in the old days when I learned how to make a VCD using Sefy's guide.

So I've been a Smartripper ever since. Is there a reason why I should switch? They both DeCSS, etc.

The only difference I know of is not being able to burn right? (I have used Decrypter once or twice just to see)

  4. decrypter has much more functionality than smartripper. I used to use smartripper myself but converted a while back.

what extra functions (I am not second-guessing, just wondering because I may switch)?

  6. @drewson99, I don't see the relation between ripping a DVD-5 to it being a Region-1 movie ?

The DVD-5 is the media type, not the movie region, so it doesn't really matter which Ripper you use, they both make your movie into Region Free.

  7. Don't forget that stripping the region coding off (or replacing it) won't change the video format - make sure you can play PAL discs or you'll have to re-encode which is a whole different story altogether.
