  1. I just bought a Pioneer DVR-510H-S. Last night I tried it out,
downloaded a movie from satellite to hard drive and then copied to a
DVD-R. I did all this as per instructions in manual ( in fact I did 2
DVD-R's one in SP, and one at Fast Record ). The problem I'm having is
they both play back in the pioneer recorder but will not play back in
either of my other two DVD players ( an old APEX, and a small 5" I
bought at Wal-Mart ). I have never had a problem playing vcd's or burnt
disks in these players before. Being a newbie to the scene I wondering
if someone can shed some light on this and tell me if I'm doing
    something wrong ?

    Thanks in advance
    jbleaf

p.s. I have also tried both dvd copies in my pc dvd player and it says no disk...

  8. PIONEER 510 OWNERS:
Picture quality on the Pioneer 510? User experiences?
There is so little input on this unit in comparison to all the others.
Just purchased one online and looking forward to it but frankly, I'd like to hear more about it from other users. Anyone else out there who owns this who could post some more comments as far as media used, good points, bad points, etc. ..? Thanks.

  9. another question by the "Very Newbie" maybe someone knows
I have just purchsed a new Poineer 510 dvd recorder, i copy my first movie from satellite to hard drive then made a dvd copy of the movie. It will play on my old Apex dvd player and on my pc player but will not play on my Initial DVD-9510 portable player... this player says it will play any type of dvd. I recorder to a dvd-r. If anyone can shed some light on this for me i would appreciate it. ( I am the newest of newbies )

Smackyouone, I am going to quote myself... try reading that post. I would say that same might apply to any DVD Recorder and not just Panasonic and Philips (my personal experience).

I know that... What I didn't know was that refering to "dvd copy" you ment function of DVD Recorder. I thought that you are talking about one of those DVDabcCopy sofwares... My mistake.

Could you plaese explain more this sentence ? "but my dvd copy wont even load let alone freeze..."

  15. What I meant is the dvd that I have created on the recorder will not even load on the Initial DVD-9510 portable player, yet if it plays on my other dvd players it should play on this one ( according to the info on this site regarding that dvd player ) So I am confused why I can get it to work on my other players but not this one. Sorry for not being very clear before...

  17. donpedro, I am going to take one of my dvd-r that I have copied down to where I bought my portable player and try it in a different one to see if the player is defective... by rights this dvd player should play anything you throw at it.
( oh yeah I was just borrowing a buddies login until mine was set up 24hrs)

  18. Heres what I found out, bought a new Initial DVD-9510 portable player at Walmart tried dvd still would not work. So I bought a different portable player ( Venturer PVS 176W ) plays the dvd's like a charm. Took back other 2 dvd player to walmart, ended up costing an extra $50 to upgrade to a 7" portable so it was worthit. Conclusion even though in the dvd help column the Initial DVD-9510 portable player is supposed to play everything you throw at it " it doesnt ".
Thanks for everyones help that answered my questions in this thread.

  20. I just received my Pioneer Monday, the manual is very vague in some areas, such as finalizing. The recorder just stops recording, it doesn't take you to a finalizing area. Have to find on your own. I hooked up my VCR and made some copies of old tapes, that went pretty smoothly. Quality is very good in SP mode, haven't tried Fine yet. Very happy to see this thread , hope to learn more. My copy played in my Panasonic DVD player

  21. HI I got my Pioneer in December, I've been using Prico Printable disks with no problem, Fine mode looks identical to original and sp is pretty close, haven't tried others yet.
With the first few discs transfered from the hard drive at fine we were having some playback problems on different DVD players, they all played back on my DVD player (electrohome) but had some glitches on a couple of Norcents. We noticed that anything copied in sp played great on just about all machines. We have decided to make all copies at sp for clients since there is very little difference between it and fine. We also make it a habit to transfer to hard drive in fine mode and then to disc in sp, just seems to be better quality even though we loose the ability to high speed copy. I Love this machine..
By the way we are using an epson r300 for printing discs and it does a great job.

This is one terrific machine. Extended learning curve--but it does everything I want it to do. Rogertk

  23. I also have this recorder - I've dont qite a bit of recording with it and it has worked perfectly so far, though it was sort of hard for me to learn to operate.

I record many movies from my tivo (DIRECTV) to the hard drive on the Pioneer. I have also copied from VCR and DV. I have been copying to the Pioneer hard drive at FINE and then burning the disk at whatever size is required - frequently using the optimize so it selects the closest size.

My question is this: Am I causing any harm by having the movie converted by the Pioneer twice - first when it is copied to the Pioneer hard drive and second when I resize it to fit on the DVD? (I may have used the incorrect terminology with "converted", so please try to understand what I'm saying.) At first I thought that first copy in Fine would keep more detail, now I'm worried about messing with it twice. Should I be selecting the closest setting the first time or is an initial recording at Fine OK?

Also, is the Optimize setting a good recording choice? It appears to select the closest setting (for example if I have a movie that is 2 hours and 28 minutes it says that the optimize will record at 2 hours 30 minutes).

I would appreciate any comments about either of these.

    Thanks,
    Deb
