Hi is there any freeware which will enable meto convert a mpeg movie to dvd format so i can watch it on my dvd player. thanx in advance simon uk

Not freeware as such but TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc DVD Author are both free for a month, there's loads of guides available too!

Fill in your computer details, do you have a DVD burner? If not, you could try VCD, that might work on your player, and can be easily done with freeware. There is one freeware encoder that's DVD capable, bbMPEG, it's quite slow and a bit complicated for novices. It'd be a good idea to browse some of the guides over there <--. Good luck.

I can't just find it at the moment but I do remember a guide on ' How to convert to DVD using just freeware tools '. But the process used so many different tools to complete the process if you want to be able to play it on your dvd player this side of christmas I wouldn't bother.

The best method would be to invest in TMPGenc Plus and TMPGenc DVD Author which are fairly easy to use and give good results.

However , as fritzi93 suggested you could make VCDs which will play on most DVD players . For that you just need TMPGenc which is free for Mpeg1 conversions . I find the quaility of VCD's pretty good , if you don't mind the film being on 2 cdr's .

Another option is to convert to Mpeg1 with TMPGenc then use TMPGenc DVD Author which will allow you to create a DVD disc with Mpeg1 video by converting the audio from 44.1k to 48k which is DVD compatable. That means only one programme to buy , and you can get up to 7 hours of video on one DVD ie 3 or 4 movies.
