I have a 237mb .vob (it's a three minute animated film) that I want to reduce in size for posting on a web site.

I am clueless what to do, what to use, or how to do it.
I've downloaded some software I've seen mentione, like TMPGnc, etc, but I'm not clear on what I need to do.

  2. I would use DVD2AVI to make a *.d2v-project file of the vob-file, then i would convert to xvid with Gordian knot!

Read some guides about converting dvd to xvid, and you'll propably get an idea about what to do

    good luck!

Yes you definately want to use DVD2AVI to get that D2V project file.

As for Xvid ... not a bad choice but keep in mind that you can encode the D2V into whatever you want. It could be DivX or Xvid or MPEG-1 or whatever.

Thanks guys, for the lead on DVD2AVI

That worked (making a 22k d2v file from my original 237mb), but am I correct that I need to do something different to get the audio also?

Do I have to rip the audio from the original vob first? Not that I know how to do that .....

In DVD2AVI, under the Audio menu, Make sure that Dolby Digital and MPEG are both set to Demux All Tracks.
    If in doubt, Google it.
