That's a good question. I have an 851 with the most recent firmware and when I run it and then burn a blank diskette and then look at the booktype, it doesn't work. It may have something to do with the burning software that I'm using, because everyone else on this and other forums say it works fine.

  3. Okidoki...

    Let's check...
As I'm reading your post, you say that use the tool and then burn a blank disc... i assume you mean bearn a blank disc with data? (it's late for me 01.00 midnight)
You're doin the steps in the right order. booktype tool->check your media->change your media and then burn?

i also found a oem update for the firmware, i installed this but i havn't been able to test it... i hear different storys about this booktype tool... some say that it has mearly effect. in my case, i want to 'reconvert' dvd+r to dvd-rom this because my standalone player doesn't support dvd+r. but a friend of mine said that it more has to do woth the reflection of the disc. Don't ask me why but he said so...

But i haven't tryed anything yet. But i'm gonna do some experiments with it... i'll post new info if it works and give some specs about the way it will work!

    good!

    cheers!

All I can say for sure is that I burned -R, no good for PS2, +R, no good for PS2, bitset +R to DVD-ROM, and it played perfectly in PS2.

As far as I'm concerned, it works.

    Cheers,

    George

Some DVD players are picky as hell, although they're all supposed to read ROMs. Some don't, and we have to live with that, or buy another one.

  5. Alright!

Could you give some specs about whta you are using to acomplisch this...
    Wich program do you use...

but ok, i'm gonnan try it out and these are steps that ill will follow:

    open booktype tool
    convert the bitset to dvd-rom
    then run autoshrink
    burn the DVD

little bit off topic.... I read that DVdshrink also have een booktype option (use 3.15) when I first started out with burning DVD's i used DVD+r. I made a mistake with the compression, so that even the main movie was in stillpicture, but the DVD+r played in my standalone player... Is this true, and if so, that would be great

but first, i need some source DVD's to test these things!!

    cheers!

I tried running the Book Type Utility but keep getting a EAccess Violation error!!! I downloaded the file a second time and tried it again, but it still gives me the error. What is the problem?
