  1. Is there a program which will allow me to rip to 48k Wav? In DVDx when I select an audio codec it automatically enters 44.1/192kbs or something similar. Since DVD audio is already 48k it seems a waste to resample with Virtualdub or TMPGenc. Is there something I should install, codecwise? Has anyone been able to rip to 48k Wav?

    Thanks in advance,
    MJ

  2. The standard for Audio CD is 44.1kHz, any Audio CD will require an upsample to 48kHz. You have to extract and then upsample.

Strangly enough, just yesterday, i wondered if it was possible to use "SSRC_HP.exe" (Shibatch Sample Rate Converter) as an external encoder for Exact Audio Copy.

The short answwer; YES YOU CAN!

    Are you familiar with EAC?

    Here's what i did:

In the "External Compressin" tab of "Compression Options" check the box; "use external program for compression"
    --------------------------------------------
Parameter passing scheme: User Defined Encoding

    Use File Extension: .48.wav

    Command Line: C:\WINNT\system32\CMD.EXE (i use Win2k)

    Additional Command Line Parameters:
    /c C:\(path)\ssrc_hp.exe --rate 48000 --twopass --dither 1 --bits 16 --pdf 1 %s %d

Then check the box, "Delete WAV after compression"

(The remaining check-boxes don't do anything.)
    --------------------------------------------

To make use of SSRC_HP.exe, you should need to use the "MP3 button" for extraction.

  4. You say 'rip to wav' I take it you mean extract audio from DVD [usually ac3 format] and convert ac3 to wav.
I use 48kHz 192-256kbps wav files as an intermediary step in going from DVD(vob) to SVCD. I've installed the GordianKnot pack from www.doom9.org which contains the tools required - BeSweet is used to convert an ac3 audio file to a 44.1 or 48kHz wav file.
BeSweet will allow you to go directly from ac3 to mp2 but I find the higher frequencies hop from left to right channel when I try this, here is also a swishing introduced - ac3 to wav (BeSweet) to mp2 (TMPGEnc) works best for me.

Most DVDs don't have any WAV audio (LPCM) on them, so you will be limited to ripping probably an .AC3 track. Rip this, then use HEADAC3HE to convert to .WAV (at 48ksps).

  6. I'm not limited to ripping to AC3 - I can rip to MP3 if I wanted - and I know I can convert with BeSweet to Wav, but I was hoping to skip extra steps. DVDx allows me to select Wav as audio, but won't allow me to select the sample rate or bit stream. Once I select Wav, 44.1/192kbps is automatically entered. It seeams there should be a way to extract 48k audio from a DVD directly without then upsampling.

Well, you can't rip to MP3, because there is not any DVD that has any MP3 on it. And, you can't rip WAV off the DVD is there isn't any on the disk.

I think you are confused by the terminology. So I'm confused as to what you want to do.

  8. OK. So whatever you want to call it, I can rip a DVD to a DivX file with MP3 audio, for example, can I not? I've done it before as have countless others. All I want to do is end up with a file of AVI video and 48k WAV audio.

    Well,

DVD Audio ripper should be your answer, but the version I tried was a little buggy... version was 1.0.14... the newest is 1.0.17.
