  1. Hi,
I'm trying to convert a XVID movie + vobsub subtitles to DVD.
    Here's what I did:
    1. Used AVI2VCD to de-compress the audio (to PCM) within the AVI file.
    2. Used TMPGENC to convert the avi to mpg file.
    3. Used TMPGENC again to demux the mpeg file into mv2 and mp2 (could've done that in step 2, I know...).
    4. Used SUB2SUP for converting the subtitles.
    5. Used IFOEdit to multiplex the mv2+mp2+sup into VOBs
    6. Played the files on my PC - everything looked fine.
    7. Burned the VOBs on a DVDR and played it in my stand-alone DVD player - NO AUDIO !
The movie & the subtitles look great, but it looks as if the DVD player cannot detect the audio channel.

I read someplace that TMPGENC doesn't handle audio very well, so I tried extracting the audio to a WAV file using AVI2WAV and then repeated steps 2-5. When I played the VOBs on my PC the audio was completely out of sync!

What did I do wrong ?

Does the first DVD you made play on your PC with sound? Are you in an NTSC area, i.e. North America? Some NTSC DVD players will not accept a DVD with MP2 sound as it is not in the NTSC standard. You might have to convert your sound to AC3 or LPCM (wav). AC3 can be the same size as MP2 but LPCM is much larger so re-encoding may be necessary if you go with LPCM.

  3. The DVD I burned plays on my PC with sound. My stand-alone DVD is multi-region.
BTW - I tried re-authoring the video I got from TMPGENC with a WAV file I extracted using AVI2WAV. When I tried playing it on my PC, I heard a lot of static noise, but no sound.
