Hello All, I have some old Circuit City DIVX DVD's. Does anyone know how to encode/re-encode them so they can be watched???

After all this time, I'm REALLY surprised that nobody has hacked the divx consoles. I predicted that within weeks of the official "turn-off" date of the divx servers, someone would have made a little plug-in box to pretend to be the divx server and tell the player it was "ok" to play any and all movies.
But it never happened. Now we're also hearing that there's no decrypter for them? Sad.

Why go through all the hassle for DIVX decrypting or box hacks? Talk about a total waste of time!
What next, wanna try and find a way to keep the Disney "expiring" DVDs from killing themsleves?! -
I think the reason alot of work was not put into this is simple. The format died because no one wanted to use it. Therefore there are not alot of people out there willing to put work into it.
Its not like you lost anything... they are after all technically rental disc that you own. So TECHNICALLY information about doing it might be againt the AUP. -
Well the thing is that my friend has quite a stack of them - they were practically giving them away at the end, and he worked for Circuit City at the time. He must have about 500 movies on divx.

there are about a 700-1000 players which can 'play all' -- these were speciially made for top employees at CC and for promotional purposes -- unless you have one of these players - you are out of luck ..
some people managed to clear thier machines at the end -- and if you keep setting the time back - they will play (so ive heard) .. you could only clear the firmware while connected to CC - which such number is no longer in operation .. and knowing the service codes for such operation.
these disks sell for next to nothing on ebay (and rarely sell i see) .. paste them to a wall and make a nice decoration .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
well, i originally made this post because i did buy a few hundred right at the end. i have since givin away the pro scan dvix player that i bought at CC. while they may be "rentals", i have never watched them and would love to find a way to decript.

the DISKS are dvd disks -- but whats on them isnt a dvd ....
that was a waste of time and money to copy a disk that will not play ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Dude--where in the HELL have i said that i copied a disk??? answer that for me.

only way they got on a dvd-r is if someone copied them"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
