  2. I've read from others that Pro-coder is slightly better for interlaced source video.

main concept , CCE and canopus will all yield pretty well close the same quality on high bit rate 2 pass VBR (so will tmpgenc) - progressive source and using near the same settings ...

you will have to frame serve it with CCE ...

  4. Interesting...I have always heard people rave about CCE being THE best encoder out there. And are you also telling me that I can skip the frameserving step if I use Pro Coder or Tmpgenc Plus? AND get the same results?

yes -- main concept , tmpgenc and canopus all will accept mpeg2 directly ..

with canopus - you may have to install the mpeg2 reader app - which is on the reg'd users support site (after you log on - look at downloads)

  6. What about time differences...I know that with converting avi's and such with Mainconcept, it is usually about half the time as Tmpgenc, but (IMHO) with a price for quality.
But...if it works just as well as CCE does, then maybe I can give it a go. I mean over all which ones are quicker compared to quality? Is there a comparison chart that you can link me to?

I may try Tmpgenc just because I have it though!

MC and CCE are the fastest , canopus is next and tmpgenc last ...

CCE is just a pain in the ass to use. I continually wonder why, after YEARS of being the best and one of the most popular encoders out there, the idiots at CinemaCraft haven't bothered to include a halfway-usable GUI on their product.
