  1. i'm using dvdx platinum to make backup copies of regular dvd-9 discs. i'm using the advance option and allowing it to split the dvd-9 to 2 dvd-r 4 discs. this is my 3rd time backing up a movie dvd but i'm having problem with this one movie. after dvd-x copies the files from the source disc, i get an "record error- unable to record- see log for details" message. i have a decrypter installed in my system. why is this happening? please help!!

    thanks

good link. mostly mixed reviews on the software. what freeware programs would you use and how good are the quality of the dvd-r's you made with them? do these programs compress the file?

if anyone else knows how to resolve my original problem, please let me know.

Yeah, drop that crap program (I used to use both DVD X Xpress and normal DVD X Copy), and get DVD Shrink and either CloneDVD or DVD Decrypter for burning. Never fails.

ok, but do both dvd shrink and decrypter split the dvd9 movies into 2 dvd4 discs like dvd x plat does? if so, how do you do it?

  7. dvd shrink "shrinks" the original disc to fit on one dvd-r
If you need to split it it can be done very easily, just look for a guide.

Carlo, this is why it's called "dvdSHRINK", because it compresses the DVD9 down so it can fit onto 1 DVD5 disc. This way, you save 1/2 the number of discs that you'd normally use. So no, DVD Decrypter is used just to rip the movie files onto the hard disk, then you open the video files using DVDShrink, take out all the garbage (extra audio channels, menus, etc.), then burn it with DVD Decrypter, or CloneDVD. Also, you can rip and encode a movie with DVDShrink, but it encodes a little faster if it's reading from your HD instead of "on the fly" off the disc.
