Can't decide which to choose. I have a dual format (plextor 708A) burner, and really don't know which to go with...or the difference really.

The second is sold as a 'silver matte finish' top (what exactly is this?...is it just a shiny metalic top? fingerprints...ugh) not sure what the first one would look like (anyone know?) All else being equal I would probably go with the +R's hopefully to burn at 8x instead of 4x.

you cannot burn dvd+r at 8x unless they say 8x. those riteks are g04's and say 4x. maybe with hacked firmware you can, but i wouldnt recommend it. but anyway, both of those are the same, just one is +r and one is -r. dont even think about asking which one is better. do a search and you'll find many arguments supporting both sides. i use the first link, ritek g04 dvd-r. no particular reason, i just tried them and they work great, so i figure why switch? oh and the silver matte top, its not shiny like the bottom of a cd. its kind of a satin smooth finish, and the great think is you cant leave fingerprints on it.

Only the +R discs say silver matte finish, is the -R ones the same, just not labeled as so on newegg?
After burning my last batch of Ritek (Arita) 4x discs and using Nero thrrough DVD Shrink to burn it starts and finishes burning at 8X (11,??? Kb/s). No firmware upgrades, out of box setup Plextor 708A. -
I ended up going with the +R's. A few dollars more, but I have burned DVD+R's before (never have tried -R's, guess I just bought +R's first), they should burn at 8X instead of 4x, and if the +R dual layered discs start coming out this spring the +R format will probably start to take over.

I would have said go with the -R, cheaper and -R tends to have more compatibility with standalone players.

I have heard that the -R has slightly higher compatibility, but I have tried my +R backups in about 7 standalone players, old and new PS2's, and an Xbox...all worked flawlessly.
