  1. I purchased the Lite On 851 at Office Max about a week ago but have not had any success burning at 8X. I have tried Memorex and TDK 4X dvd+r with no luck. Any ideas? I am using Sonic and Nero.

I did flash the drive with the latest firmware but that did not work either. Nero tells me that the drive has a max of 4X but is this related to the media?

What version of Nero are you using? Could be your version doesn't recognize 8x burning. Try a trial version of another burning software and see if it's still the same.

If you have Sonic's RecordNow DX or Max try updating the burning engine.

  5. I updated my Nero software to 6.3.0.2. to no avail. The drive came with Sonic MyDVD with Record Now DX. It is version 4.6

Would having the drive in an external case cause any problems?

  7. I have an 811s and thie POS can't burn DVD+r at 8x. I have tried TDK+r,Memorex+R(Richojpn01-02) and i cant watch the backups on my standalone. I returned it after flashing the firmware about 20 times and the new one is the same way. I am selling this POS to my friend and buying a Pioneer A07.

  9. Everyone,

Thank you for your help. It appears the firmware for the 851 is not allowing as many media types as the 811 to burn at 8X. The link above to CDFREAKS will display a forum discussing this issue. If anyone else is experiencing the same problem, try out the updated firmware that these folks suggest. I haved burned 5 TDK and Memorex 4X DVD+R's at 8X.

  10. I'm having the same problems with my 851S but the CDfreaks forums seem to be down. Can someone help me out with what I need to do to burn at 8x?

    TIA.
