  1. I sent a friend of mine in the states a DVD of holiday footage which his player (as above) refuses to play. The first one I sent was written on DVD-R using Nero 5.510 (PAL format) and DVDit authoring software. I had sent a copy to two other friends in the USA and they play perfectly. He said it came up with 'cannot play' I checked the specs on this site and it should have worked. I wrote it on a DVD+R using the same combination and he told me it said 'cannot play' I then re-wrote it on a DVD-R using UDF 1.05 and also did a copy authored with Ulead DVD movie factory. He has now told me that both DVD's say 'cannot play' and "playback prohibited by area limitations." I am at a loss to understand why as I have never had these problems before. None of the DVD's are region coded and he advised me that his machine was only 18 months old. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

2 things that may have caused this:

    1. usa uses ntsc format, not pal.

    2. usa uses region 1 dvd formatting. if you made them region free, some players wont recognize them. try making the dvd just a region 1.

  3. Thanks for that but they are region free as I have no way of region coding them.
