  1. I HAVE AN EXTERNAL SONY DRX-500UL DVD BURNER, RUNNING WITH AN ACER ASPIRE LAPTOP.

I HAVE BEEN BACKING UP MY DVDS USING DVD SHRINK AND NERO 6 ULTRA, ONTO DATAWRITE YELLOW 4X DISCS.

I MANAGED TO BACKUP AROUND 20 DISCS, BUT NOW KEEP GETTING BURN FAILURES ON EVERY ATTEMPT! MY LAST 14 DISCS HAVE BEEN COASTERS!

    ANYONE SUGGEST A SOLUTION?

I HAVE TRIED REINSTALLING ALL SOFTWARE, BUT NO LUCK THERE!

    HELP ME PLEASE!!!

  2. CAN YOU POST THE NERO LOG FILE?

DOES IT HAPPEN AT THE BEGINNING OR THE END OF THE BURN?

HAVE YOU TRIED TO BURN TO ANOTHER BRAND OF MEDIA?

  3. I DON'T HAVE A LOG FILE SAVED, BUT WILL POST ONE IF I GET ANOTHER COASTER!

IT IS HAPPENING AT PRETTY MUCH ANY STAGE, START, AND END BEING MOST FREQUENT.

    TRYING NEW MEDIA TOMORROW.

  4. Hi thereverendgreen and Welcome to the forum.

With that much trouble I would say get an RW to test with. They can be erased and reused like 1000 times. If everything starts working out right then go back to the R's. Thats what I do.

First thing I would suspect is the media. I had that same thing happen with a 10 pack. The first 4-5 burned ok but after that all costers!!! The last two would not even read in my burner . . . Media now days is a big deal. I would try the RW, then try a different brand of disk.

Have you tried slowing down the burn. I've did that with bad media before that sometimes helped.

    Good luck.

if you continue to have problems, even with good media such as memorex or verbatim... and at slower speeds.

then i suggest that you return your dvd-ram drive as it has failed you, and exchange it (if you still have the reciept) for a new one.

happened to me... had a sony dvd-ram drive... lasted about 2 months.. then all it would burn are coasters (luckily i used DVD+RW) so I returned it as defective.

  7. You know, this sounds stupid, but has worked for me. Try running Defrag on your HDD. I ran into a problem where I had a bunch of stuff backed up on my harddrive (some movies in .vob format, etc), and burns crapped out on me. Defraged, and everything ran smooth as silk. Just give it a shot before you run around buying different medias, etc etc.

  11. I have tried defrag and it makes no difference!

Also, I don't think it is a dodgy batch of media, as I bought two seperate spindles from different suppliers, and none of them work.

Am going to try new media today, so will keep you updated!

SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS THING! Beginners mistake!!

Before blaming media and the drive, try a different burning programme.

I love Nero, but sometimes for no reason it does mess up.
I have found Copy2dvd is in general good and will burn the disc ok when Nero fails. I am still using Nero 5.5, tried version 6 when it first came out and was not too keen on it.
