  1. I am backing up my Sopranos DVD collections and am experiencing a LOT of pixelation, even when I watch the video files on my PC. I also backed up my 24 and Alias collections, which came out perfect, no pixelation at all. For 24 and Alias, I've used primarily DVD Decrypter + CloneDVD, just started using Nero Recode also. I've even tried using DVD2DVD (DVD2SVCD) with a 4 pass CCE transcode and they still come out lousy. Anyone have a high quality method for backing these up?

I've backed up all four seasons, primarily with DVD95COPY and on some DVD2ONE. The first season was the most problimatic because they contain four episodes per disk. It's important to save only one audio stream when you backup. The disks contain several audio streams. I save only the 192bit 2-channel stream. This allows 400-500 MB's to be put into video quality.

Yes, I've done that, I'm only saving the 2-channel audio, no subtitles. I did realize that the 1st season has 4 per disk as opposed to the rest, which have 3 (except disk 1 which has 4), but Alias and 24 each have 4 episodes per disk and those came out excellent.

  4. Those files are pretty big. No matter how you do it, you will have a high degree of pixalization..... You could always try using DVDFAB and split it in two.

  5. I put 2 or 3 episodes on one disk using dvdshrink.

if you want to keep the menus, you could use clonedvd and take out the episodes you don't want.

    ie,
first disk contains ep 1 and 2.

    2nd disk, contains ep 3 and 4.

you could also use dvdfab to split the disk into 2 dvdr's if you like.

alias and 24 have commercial breaks, reducing the total length of each episode, whereas sopranos doesn't.

  7. What I think I am going to do is take the disks that have 4 episodes and divide it in half, so I'll have 2-2-3-3-3.
