  1. I am converting some old VHS tapes to DVD. I am using Vegas Video 3.0 to capture a 2 hour-long VHS tape to AVI format. I then edit and render this raw AVI file (27 gig) into MPEG2/DV format using Vegas Video's MPEG2 encoder. The resulting mpg file is 6 gig. This does not fit on my 4.7 gig DVD.

A local business claims (and I am sure they can) convert VHS tapes to DVD and store up to 2 hours on a DVD. How are they doing this? Are they using professional hardware/software to convert/transfer VHS to DVD? Hardware/software that is not commercially available to JoeSchmos on the street? Vegas Video is fairly high end for consumers. I have only been able to store 90+ minutes on a DVD.

Do I simple render the AVI file to a lower quality mpg??

    Thanks for any help.

It's all about bitrate. I do not use VV so I could not tell you how to adjust it....
