  1. Hey everyone. I have been using DVD Workshop to author one of my DVDs but I am having trouble inserting chapters it seems.

Here is my situation. The DVD consists of 21 music videos of a band and I want every video to be a new chapter so I can hit next on the remote to go to the next video.

I have all of the videos lined up on the bottom of the screen where you can link them to text or what not on the menu screen......and when I look to the right side where the chapter bar is, there is already 1 chapter there without me putting it there........is that default?

Also I then go to the first video and find the first I-Frame which is usually around 12 tenths of a second and click on Insert As Chapter. It goes to the chapter bar on the right just fine. I then want to make my 3rd chapter so I go to the next movie and find the first I-Frame and am ready to insert that as the 3rd chapter but I notice on my chapter bar on the right side, that 2nd chapter isn't there anymore. So it inserts the 3rd chapter as 2nd again. And so on and so on with the rest of the clips.

Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? Why doesn't it just keep the chapters on the right hand side the whole time. Everytime I go to the next video to insert a chapter, the previous chapter is gone. But if I go back to that previous video, the chapter pops back up on the chapter bar on the right.

I am very frustrated......I am sure it is something simple I am missing. Please help and sorry for the long post. Thanks

How did you put that 21 music videos into DVD Workshop? 21 music videos in a single MPEG2 file or 21 MPEG2 files each of which is 1 music video?
I think (maybe wrong) you have mixed up the difference between chapters and titles.
In the latter case, you have 21 titles and you can only insert chapters into each individual titles or you can link each title to a sub-menu where you can use your remote to select each of them and the play starts from the beginning of each title.

  3. Hi,
judging from your words that read "I have all of the videos lined up on the bottom of the screen" it seems that you have 21 different mpgs (ie titles) and not one. You can define chapter points within a title. Every time you move to a new title (ie mpg) the first i-frame is set by default as the 1st chapter point so the next chapter point that you define is the 2nd and so on. So, what you have to do is, either join your mpgs to make one file, or make a menu (or as many menus as it takes) where every button corresponds to the 1st chapter of each video clip you have, with this way every time you press the next button on your remote you will be changing titles and not chapters.

  4. Sorry for not being to specific. The way I put them in there is 21 seperate video files.

The way my menus are set up right now is that I have 2 menus. The first one is full of music videos and then the next menu has live videos on it.

I linked the second page to the first without any problem.

I think you are right about me getting chapters and titles mixed up.

Is it possible that I don't need to insert chapters and Ulead will keep them as 21 seperate files and will know when I press the next button, it goes to the next video?

Hmmmmm Otherwise it sounds like the easiest thing to do is join them and make one big file and then insert chapters that way.

    Thanks for the replies.

I have something to add/question about DVDWS2 - WHY is it that I am only able to insert chapter markers at these I-Frames??? In most cases, I don't want my chapter marker to be at an I-Frame but instead at a frame of my choice,,,, does anyone have any insight into this matter?

  6. According to the following Web page...

    http://www.homemovie.com/prozone/tips/prozone_tech_tips_frame_accurate_chapters.htm

..."The DVD specifications only allow for chapters to be placed on I-frames."

I found out how to fix it at the encode stage... Get a program called Cinema Craft SP,,, It's a tad pricey ($1950.00), but it lets you insert I-Frames exactly where you want your chapters to be!!!!
