  1. Hi I wanted to author a dvd that plays mp3s. My dvd player doesnt play mp3s on dvds(only mp3s on cds) so i figured i could make a dvd that holds like 600 songs and create a menus with buttons that link to the individual 600+ files. I would neeed 600 buttons. Does anyone outthere know if this will work?

    Thanks

    Zore :P

typically if the dvd plays mp3's on cd it should be able to play mp3's on dvd. My dvd player for example will disply a data dvd as a windows explorer view if you will

Folders with names of folder on left
    Contents of foldres on right

    options are play file individually
    or play folder

so in a way its got buttons already, as each folder is its own option

just try a data dvdr if you have not done so already

Some DVD players supports menu browsing (explorer windows) some do not (just start looking the MP3 files and starts playing them). The ones with menu browsing support will also display the folder and file names.

If you want to play 600 plus songs, since DVD is either UDF or ISO you can not put those MP3 files as they are. You have to convert them into .MP2/.MPA files or even better .AC3 stereo (or 5.1 but there is no point) files and make a menu and start linking those audio files in the menu(s) as chapter(s).

There is no way you can use MP3 files without converting them into DVD standard audio files .MP2/.MPA or .AC3 in the menu(s).

Now if you have a player with an advance fimware that can browse DVD-R ISO format you can simply put those mp3, mpa. or ac3 in the root folder or sub folders and the player will list all the files and play them.

One of the best I've seen and used is dBPoweramp Music Converter found here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/. It has a built in support for converting directly from MP3 to MP2 in bulk and it does it really quick and the qulity is amazing. Some programs have convert from MP3 to WAV and to MP2.

As to what format to use depending on your DVD author software. MP2 is compressed (MPEG audio file) where as .mpa is LCPM format. You'll get smaller file size with .mp2

  8. Thanks alot for the help here. Really aprreciate it. I got 1 more question. Ive converted a test .mp3 to .mp2 using the db power amp software. Now when i try to link the song to a button using encore dvd, it wont let me. It sees it as an audio file so it wont allow me to link it to a button. Should i try another dvd authoring program that is capable of linking the .mp2 audio files? Or is this not possible. What authoring program could do this?

    Thanks

I have not tried Encode DVD yet. But did you remember to change from 44.1 Khz to 48 Khz when you use dbpoweramp?
I know some DVD authoring programs that take separate stream for video (.mv2) and audio (.mp2/.mpa) can take only audio stream. DVD-Lab can do it as well as DVD architect.

Now if Encode DVD expecting both video and audio stream in a chapter then what you can do is:
Create a bitmap 702x480 (or 720x480) and paint it black and use a video editor (Video Studio 7.0 or Premiere) then import that bitmap file. Then encode it to MPEG2-DVD format (702 or 720x480 video only). If the file saved has extension .MPG just rename it to .mv2. As well you can use TMPGEnc to create .mv2 file. You just need to create one .mv2 file and use it for all audio tracks (.mp2 files).
