Finally!!! iChat AV with PC users via AIM 5.5

Apple introduces iChat 2.1 which allows mac users to use iChat AV and thier iSight to chat with PC users of AIM 5.5

Yeah, hopefully, this is a documented standard, and Trillian and others will be able to implement this in their AIM clients. As I posted in the DVDRHelp Mac Video thread, I retransmit my satellite TV content with my analogue video to DV bridge box to my Mac buddies, who take turns reserving shows, as only one person can watch a show at a time. Now my Windows-using friends can join in on the fun. I hope they can bear with AOL IM for this function until others get in the game. I think most use Trillian. Fortunately for us Mac users, iChat is a nice little AIM client, and is guaranteed not to get disconnected by AOL, unlike some of the others... Anyways, this was big news for me.

Its not gold standard communication in PC realm, but iChat is for mac. Mac users have the wonderful ability since iChat AV release of unlimited, free, synced AV chat with other mac users. But it wouldnt work for mac to PC chatting. Now with the new 5.5 video aspect of AIM it does using the newest iChat

its huge news for lots who were frustrated by the HUGE lack of support for good AV apps that are cross platform. Not to mention that now its FREE

You're broadcasting to your friends through the chat client?

Yahoo Messenger will let you do this easily using the webcam feature...not to mention the Super Webcam feature.

What's interesting about this is that AOL wanted to do this sooner but couldn't because of antitrust something or other related to their merger with TW.

Have you tried Yahoo Messenger? 2-3fps!!! who wants that? And I'm on a high DSL line.
This is our best bet so far. Here's hoping AOL and Apple can both pool their resources and make this the best cross-platform audio/video client.

I suspect as time passes things will progress nicely!

i was clocking 25-30 fps with my iChat AV to a PC AIM 5.5 this evening

yahooX is really really really slow, not to mention no audio support for Mac to PC talk

AIM/iChat is the pioneer for sure!

Well, it obviously works with iChat AV 2.1, which is available for MacOS X 10.3.x Panther. Are you mourning the lack of Win2K support? Can anyone confirm if the new version works with Win2K?

that holds true for PC users and AIM 5.5, though the system requirements are not limited to XP

for mac users its not required for both to have the XP system (obviously )

either way, it works very well for av chat now
