My Ti 17" PB keeps spitting out dvds/cds after a few seconds. Sometimes, I can't even put it in. It's as though something is blocking it from inside. I read someone's other post and they mention a scratch superdrive AND one other posts said to replace it totally. My ??? is:
1) Why is this happening? (Any other reason then a scratch superdrive?); and
2) Where could I get a reasonably priced replacement (with approx the same capabilities)?
Your advice and comments would be most welcome!![]()

My 15" TiBook experienced a similar problem during several versions of Jaguar. That final update to Jaguar seemed to fix it but I don't know how or why it was happening in the first place. Theres also no problem with this under Panther.

how old is your powerbook?
still covered under apples's warranty, or perhaps by the extended apple care protection plan? I would call apple if you still have problems and make them aware of the issue for your comptuer.
I couldnt get the airport card to work for the LIFE of me in my 867 referbished 12" i just got. Apple sent me a 1ghz 12" as a replacement at no extra cost!
man i love apple
so just incase it is the drive.. you have a back up
if you dont have the protection plan i strongly suggest it if you can afford it -
i'm having the same problem on my 17" imac, arequilman. i have a month left on my 12-month warranty, so i'm taking it to an apple dealer next weekend. apple tech support told me, if the drive is faulty they will replace it.

this is true
I had a problem with my combo drive in my Tower a few months after purchasing it online. Called up tech support, made a case, they mailed me a new drive, i installed it and shipped the old one back to them.
doesnt get any better than that
well unless an apple guy came and did it for me, but how hard is that! -
Unfortunately, the warranty "just expired" when the superdrive went nuts. I did'nt get the apple care warranty (stupid me) and I'm beginning to believe I may have to replace it with another one if I can't fix this one myself. Anyone out there has any idea where I could get an inexpensive one out there and what brand is the best? Thanks y'all!

A link from Inside Mac Games linked me to a place called OWC (fairly reputable except for OWC brand RAM) that seems to stock what you want. Check it out!
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.
