I have read this a couple of times but what or why are people saying a "TRUE" 8x writer?
if it writes at 8X, isn't is a 8x writer? -
well first of all. i could tell u to do some research. but basically they claim everyone does 8x writing through overburn techniques or something, and that memorex is actually burning at 8x in a "true" fashion.

I'm not sure if I have to do any research, I have the Plex 708a and I burn @ 8x and it only takes 8 minutes.
If thats not 8x, then I don't care
TRUE or OVERBURN TECH. to me 8x is 8x and in 8 mintues I am truely happy with my Plex -
I saw the Memorex 8x dvd writer the other week at Best Buy. If I remember correctly, it was $229 with a rebate that brought the price down to $199.
Personally, I wonder what all the fuss is about regarding 8x dvd writers, when the media isn't even readily available. The advent of 8x dvd writers is great for folks who want a dvd writer, but put off purchasing one because of the price. 4X dvd writers are getting cheap these days! -
k. no i don't need to do research. ive looked at articles about this memorex drive, and they don't give specifics as to what the "true" 8x burning TECHNIQUE is. also, i don't think its a pioneer considering the memorex is claimed to write cdr at 40x, which no other dual 8x writer has claimed so far.
is it on the best buy website by chance? -

No, it isn't on Best Buy's website. I saw it on the store shelves here in Vegas at the Best Buy located on Lake Mead Blvd.

Memorex is going to have two different models of 8X burners on the market. One of them is already on store shelves. I've seen it on CompUSA web site. This model is 8X "dual FORMAT", as it is writen on the box. This one is a Lite-On 811.
The second model, which is not out yet, is to be called "True 8X Dual". This one is going to be rebadged Pioneer A07, and thus the term "True 8X" because is does it with both + & - media.
